To go to MK for just the afternoon/evening (leaving before Spectro & Wishes) when there are evening extra magic hours? This would be on Sunday August 6th.

Also, if a lot of people take afternoon breaks, does that mean that the crowds at the parks thin out during this time??

That's not crazy, we do it every trip. Afternoon crowds will start to fade after the afternoon parade and start to build again by the time Spectro and Wishes start. As long as you plan for this you can have an enjoyable night.

Are you staying in a Disney resort? If not, you will not be able to ride any attractions at the EMH. I could not tell from your post whether you were staying there or only going for a day trip?

Sounds like she is planning on leaving before Wishes/Spectro so that would be before EMH starts.

OP: You can certainly give it a try. You might not get to ride the headliners but then again, crowds might be thin as people are staying away during that hot afternoon time in anticipation of coming back later. If nothing else you can always find things to do during crowded times: Country Bear Jamboree, Hall of Presidents, Carousel of Progress, Tomorrowland Transit Authority and Mickey's Philharmagic (popular but holds a lot of ppl) and Small World (again, even with a long line it loads so many people the line generally moves quickly). Sometimes you have to go to a park when it fits your schedule regardless of crowd factor.

We're going to try the same thing on 8/13, we arrive after 6:30pm, and will check in, get a bite to eat, head to MK and catch the parade and wishes. Kick off our vacation right!
