hi all i have a son who just turned 4 in dec...we have been putting off our first disney trip until he was older -- we were planning on taking him for his
5th birthday -- but surprise we found out we were preg-- im due in april -- so my logical thinking is it would be easier to travel this dec with a 5 year old and a "newborn" then travel with a 6 year old and 1 year old --am a crazy?!?! :rotfl2:
would traveling with a 4 year old and 4 month year old be awful?? thanks for the ideas

Our first trip (with kids) was with an almost 4 yr old and a 5 month old. It was a GREAT trip - very easy, there was so much we could do with the baby, otherwise we just took turns sitting out the ride.

The next year, they were almost 5 and 18 months. We left the little one at home with grandparents - not that she wouldn't have had fun, but that was a tough age and we wanted some special time with our oldest before she started school.

This year, (in 24 days!) we'll have an almost 6, 2.5 and 3 months. Should be crazy, but everyday is crazy around here :lmao:

So to answer your question, I think taking a baby is pretty easy. You'll have a ball either way!

Well I would say there are pros and cons to both. I really think it's 6 of one half a dozen of another:confused3. I guess you need to figure out which would be less stressful and go that route. Traveling with a small baby is easier in that they will sleep through just about anything so you wouldn't need to stop for that nap break and you wouldn't have to worry about the expense of feeding them. But if you wait they will be able to enjoy more of the experience with you and be more involved with you as far as a family vacation:). The bad part is they would probably need you to go back to the resort mid-day for a nap and you would probably have to tote baby food around with you. But then again if going back mid-day is something you would do anyway it's no big deal;).
Wouldn't I make a good politician? I just rambled on and didn't really give you an answer:rotfl2:. Perhaps I should give Hilary a run for her money:idea: :rotfl:.

I think it would easier to travel with a 6 and 1 yo and traveling with a 4yo and 4mo is not awful. You should expect to maintain the same schedule that you do at home which includes naps and bedtime. Plan accordingly and you will be fine.

Neither is awful or difficult enough that you should skip the trip. :) I traveled here, there, and everywhere, including several flights back and forth from Philly to Tokyo with DD from infancy and it can be done without losing your sanity!

If I had to choose, I'd go with the trip at 4 months old. At that age, they will still sleep anywhere - stroller, your arms, etc - and don't need to be taken back to the room for a nap, meaning that noone else's trip is interrupted. Also, if the baby's breastfeeding, you can skip lugging around sippy cups and juice boxes and jars of baby food, which eliminates a lot of hassle.

That's just my .0003 of a cent. I really think the trip will be great either way, though.

Enjoy!!!!

I vote for going after you have the baby so you don't miss out on the rides! That's what we're planning to do! When we go in Nov/Dec we'll have a 8 y.o., 5 y.o. and 5-6 month old. My friend went this past year w/ her 4 and 7 y.o. and her almost 2 y.o. and she said it was hard w/ a toddler, that it would have been easier if he was a portable baby-LOL!

I would think the 4 month old would be a lot easier than a one year old. If you decidee to go when your baby is one, just make sure that he/she is used to being in a stroller and STAYING in a stroller. Our kids never fussed about being in a stroller because they didn't know that getting out and walking was an option. For our family it was not an option. I think that would be the hardest part about a one year old. Four months=a much easier time.

I agree with TheDizMom - the baby would sleep pretty much anywhere and you wouldn't have the added expense of having to get food for them (if you chose to do that).

I agree with going this year with the newborn. Actually, We are going with our 4 year old DD and the new baby will be 3 months in Oct 07.

We have been many times and i'm thinking it will be easier taking a newborn (i.e. not mobile) than an almost walking 1 year old.

We took my DD for the first time when she was 4 months old and it was great.

Go with the 4 month old! Like others have said you can easily carry a 4 m.o. or keep them in a stroller. They worst is once they become mobile i.e. crawling included, no 1 y.o will want to stay in a stroller all day. Go while you can concentrate on the older child, he'll enjoy it more!
