Am I right in my understanding? My AP expires in March but I am not going to WDW until April. I CANNOT buy the DDE now w/ my AP and then expect to use it in April because I will have to show a valid(unexpired AP) AP at the time of the meal purchase. Thanks. Threehearts

Yes, you are right in your understanding. You would have to have a valid AP to show at the time of the purchase.

I would check with DDE bout that. That's not what they told me when I ordered card.

DD used my DDE letter last week during her vacation and was never asked to show AP. She does not have an AP. I have the AP in the family and I was not in Orlando. 2nd person's name on card does not have to be AP holder.

Also, I was told I could still use DDE card when my AP expired until the expiration of the DDE.

herc.

I purchased DDE last week. My AP expires in June. I was told that the DDE is valid through Jan. 06, regardless of when my AP expires.

Your AP expires in March but your next trip is in April? Will you buy another AP for April? You could get a DDE now because your AP is still in effect but it's not the "intent" if you don't have a valid AP when you first use DDE.

I was asking if one needed a valid AP to use the DDE card or if you could purchase the card w/ your AP and then use it later if your AP expired. Not trying to scam just asking. Threehearts

I bought the DDE card on our way to FL for our recent trip. I was told that the DDE card I purchased on January 5th expires on 01/31/06. I was told I had to have an AP to buy the card but I was not told I have to renew my AP to continue to use the card until it expires. I am sure if you call the DDE folks, they can answer that question for you. If you decide to call, let us know what you find out.

I was told the exact same thing as Tooneric when I bought the DDE card; You needed the AP to purchase DDE, but once you had DDE you were good for one year regardless of AP status.

On another thread a poster stated that they were never asked to produce anything except a drivers license to verify idenity when using DDE.

This information is very critical for deciding whether or not to buy or renew an AP for DDE privileges. Any other posters up on the real scoop? Threehearts

I am on my way home from WDW. I purchased the DDE before I purchased my AP. I used the email confirmation this past week. I was asked for my picture ID to confirm that the email was for me, but I was never asked for my AP. I was told my DDE is good until Jan. 31, 2006. You do not need to show your AP with the DDE.

BTW, I sdaved $298 during the week ($348 - $50 cost of card) and I will be using it again in October. Yippee!!!

I would ask Disney directly and take down a name for future reference, just in case.
My concern would be if policy changed midstream -- which would not be unusual.

Can anyone tell me what a DDE card is! I have been away from the boards for awhile and this sounds like something new.

Good to know. I am getting it for a belated Christmas gift for DH who has the AP. His AP will expire in October, though.

I am not sure what it is either, and how do you get it and where?

The DDE card is only 20% off- is it at ALL WDW restaurants? I'm curious because I thought it was 20% off only selected restaurants but I see disboo's savings of $348 and that would mean she spent atleast $1750 in food at restaurants to save that much at 20% off- so I'm assuming now that the card can be used at all restaurants? (and even then, $1750 is a lot for food to save $348 with 20% discount). Have I got the right info?

There are a few exclusions, but most full-service restaurants participate in the program.

disboo - I was planning on purchasing my AP once we land at the Orlando Airport. Can I purchase the DDE card then? If not, how do I purchase it ahead of time? You said you were able to purchase your DDE card before buying the AP.

I think you can buy the DDE now, get the $25 off, and keep using the DDE card until it expires. I'm not 100% sure on this info, so please call DDE... you might need to call multiple times 'cause I'd bet that the CMs there are probably confused by all the changes this year, so try to get someone to double check with a supervisor to make sure.

Here's what I posted in another thread:
"Just thought I'd mention that it seems likely that the DDE is available to anyone.

You don't have to be an AP holder, and you don't have to be a FL resident to buy it for the regular price of $75.

Please note that only one person has confirmed this with DDE, and of course, we can't know for sure if this is 100% accurate until more people try to buy it.
