I had my heart set on a disney wedding since I was 8 but because of some legalities with my name, the fact that we have some very elderly and sick family and that my OHs mum can't fly I'm having to get married at home in the UK.

I want to have something like a reception for guests who come with us to WDW after our marriage at home. I'm thinking of a private dinner (preferably somewhere we can have speeches), a disney wedding cake (I don't care if we can't call it a wedding cake, my idea isn't wedding conventional anyway), and an epcot dessert party.

There would be between 12 and 16 guests including us.

Is this allowed? We wont be dragging a wedding dress and kilts with us, just formal wear.

If it is I quite like the look of the attic for our private dinner, is that available to non-weddings? And if so what sort of food can we have there? I know the passporters book says buffet food but what is buffet food at disney?

Hmm, I know you can do something but I'm not exactly sure what.

If you don't want any wedding elements at all (it looks like the only wedding type thing you wanted was a cake and even that doesn't have to be traditional wedding design) then you could book something through Disney Catered Events.

If you wanted any wedding related events you would have to book through DFTWs and that may prove more problematic since with your expected guest count you would fall under an Escape package and that doesn't really include a reception which you want but it does include a ceremony which you don't need though someone may know for sure on that. I could totally be wrong.

All the venues used by wedding receptions can also be booked through Disney Catered Events. Buffet isn't a type of food, it's a type of service. "Buffet" means that the food has to be served in warming trays laid out for guests to choose from—as opposed to "plated," where servers bring everyone individual plates of food like at a restaurant. The Attic is too far from the kitchen for Disney to serve plated menus. What kind of food you get is entirely up to you. There are very few menu items that can't be adapted for buffet service, so it's really up to you to pick and choose from Disney's menus or request a completely customized menu.

Jenheartsdisney, here in the UK I think more hot food is appearing in buffets these days, particularly wedding buffets. A good thing to be moving away from the awful sausage roll, quiche, black forest gateau typical UK buffet, I think xx
