we are thinking of using points for a studio for my family but my mom/aunt are thinking about joining us. can I use the 25% discount to book a room for them or is this not allowed:confused3 My dd will probably be in there room too.

In the past, the member had to be staying in the room to get the discount if it was available.

As Deb said, the official policy is that the member should be staying in the room. But, assuming it is for exactly the same travel dates, they may or may not allow your guests in the cash room. If not, you could always book them in to the points room and yourselves into the cash room. If they cancel, you can cancel the cash room and put your names on the points reservation.

That is really strange -- maybe the policy has changed. I booked a stay on points 8 months out for May 08, and a couple of months ahead of time, a friend and her family decided to join us. I called to see if I could get her a ressie on points, but none available. So I asked for a cash ressie, and they gave me the 25% discount -- I didn't even know it existed before then. It was totally clear that I was not going to be in the room. My friend's name was on the reservation, and it was guaranteed/paid for with her credit card. The CM just said that I had to be the one on the phone.

I think that the policy has changed. Maybe Disney is more interested in making sure that they aren't stuck with cash rooms that sit empty. I was able to book a room with cash discount for HHI this coming May and I am not staying in the room. A few years ago I was only able to book a cash room along with a points room at BWV if I stayed in one room and DH in the other! :lmao:
