Is this accurate? Reallocating points.

I have a reservation at the Poly for January 2019. Booked 11 months out and using 80 points from my 2018 use year.

Last Wednesday I closed on a new contract for Copper Creek and was given 2017 points. Our guide said I could contact member services and ask that the 80 points be put back and we could request the stay now be covered with the banked points.

I called member services and was told that was not possible because I booked the original reservation within my 11 month window and the only way she could reallocate was if I had booked within the 7 month window. Is that correct? She did set up a waiting list for me at Copper Creetand said that IF it comes through I could use the banked points. Now I sit and wait for waitlist success.

I'll let someone else explain all the details but that is correct. And congrats on the new contract!

What she said is correct for usual procedure. If you make a reservation at a home resort in the 11 month window, you cannot, at 7 months out or less, reallocate by removing those home resort points and applying points you own from another resort. The exception is that you can make the change if the category of room you have reserved is, at the time you want to make the switch of points, still separately available for reservation. The why of the rule: allowing the reallocation would effectively give you the ability to use the same home resort points for two different reservations at 11 months out. For example, buy enough points at VGF to get a studio at Christmas, and then also buy resale at a much lower price the same amount of SSR points. At 11 months out reserve that Christmas vacation at VGF. At 7 months out switch the reservation to the SSR points, bank the VGF points, and then use them again at 11 months out for VGF for another Christmas or other time that is hard to get at 7 months out.

Nevertheless, you have a situation that involves something you were told you could do as a basis for getting you to buy CCV points. You should contact your sales guide and see if he can bring about the very change he promised you could do.

You could also ask a "welcome home" reservation: MS can make some magic with the first reservation you book with a new contract. If there is availability in the CCV cash inventory they could book that room for you using points. If the resort is already completely full for your dates you're out of luck.

Yes, that's correct. If they allowed the reallocation of non-home resort points to a reservation that was made during a home resort priority then that would in essence by by passing the home resort priority. There needs to be rooms open at PVB for those same dates and then they could be rebooked using the CCV points.

As noted, MS told you correctly. Otherwise you'd be effectively booking Poly with non home resort points 11 months out. Whether the guide made this claim just to make the sale, can make it happen or was simply ill informed, we can't say. Let us know what happens.

They do not offer Welcome Home for second contracts and add ons, just first timers.

I would call your guide and have them bank the 2017 points you received a CCV, typically on a direct buy they will permit extra banking.

I'm under the impression that OP was able to bank the 2017 points and now wants to use them for the 2019 reservation but is unable.

you could also try calling in again and seeing if a different CM would do it for you. I got lucky two different times booking BWV 1BR ST with BWV points then reallocating some transferred SSR points I had...and another time I booked 2BR VGF just before 7 months and then was able to reallocate using the rest of the SSR points I had.

They aren't supposed to do it -- but occasionally it happens.

I agree it did for awhile during the past year or two. Before that they were very strict and the word is that they've been directed to be strict again.

For some additional info - I just called in today to bank some transferred Apr points and reallocate to a reservation that I created last night for this coming April which is well within the 7 month mark. I had no issues in reallocating once the CM confirmed when the reservation was made but to start out with they stated that they may or may not be able to reallocate depending on the dates and that they are now very strict on home priority and non-home priority bookings.
