Is This a Stupid Idea?

I wrote last week about my DH's truck dying. We took it to a mechanic that happens to be my DH's ex step uncle (DH's mother was married to this guys brother). Well the problem turned out to be an easy one to fix that DH probably could have done himself if it wasn't dark outside when he tried to fix it. Anyway the ex uncle mechanic fixed the problem and charged us the normal going rate of 1 hr worth of work. This will cost us under 100.00. He then took it upon himself to change the entire fuel pump, in addition to tightening up things here and there just making my DHs truck in tip top shape. Well everything he did my DH estimates he probably spend at least another solid hour on it (most likely more) and he didn't charge us anything. I thougt it would be nice of us to bring him something, in addition to the 100.00, when we go pick up the truck. But I am at a loss as to what. He is a bachelor and his shop is pretty small (no employees just a couple of guys that rent a space from him). I don't know if I should do a nice food basket or a gift card for dinner somewhere or is this idea just stupid?

I think that is very nice of you...I like the munchy basket idea. It is never stupid to show people you appreciate them and next time you know who to go to if you have truck probs!

I think that would be a wonderful idea. The gut went above and beyond what he was asked to do. I think a basket of homemade things would be a great idea. Maybe even something for dinner in smaller containers he could freeze and reheat latter.

I think it's a lovely idea...one that shows your appreciation for his kindness! I have a 'relative" like this as well. He is actually my sister's father in law, but everyone calls him "Pop". He is a bachelor......On his birthday and Christmas , my family makes him a "snack" basket and he loves it. We put different pretzels and cheeses, smoked meats, etc and buy him a case of his favorite soda...I am sure you can come up with what works best in your situation...but it's definately a great idea...

Definitely do something "above and beyond" the fee to fix the truck.

Be sure to include a few of your homemade Christmas cookies! (if you make any!)

I think it's a great idea, and since he is a bachelor, I would recommend a case of really good beer (assuming he drinks).
