I heard that at TL shark reef there is a glass bottom that seperates you from the sharks is this true?? Just curiours

Untrue. There is a viewing area on the side with glass where you can LOOK at the creatures in the Shark Reef. But there is no glass to separate the swimmers from the sea life.

Hope that this helps. :)

Untrue. I swam in the shark reef years ago and it was a short swim to say the least. I had a life vest on, swim fins, and a mask/snorkle (provided by TL) and the "swim" was basically a "float" from one end to the other. Some people were trying to stall and swim back to entend their stay in the tank, and were told by the CM's to just swim from one end to the other. It was pretty neat and at no time did I feel unsafe with the sharks.

I think there is something like that in one of the areas in Discovery Cove.

WHere is TL and what is it?? How much does it cost to do this??? Seems like it would be fun to try!

TL = Typhoon Lagoon, WDW's water park.

It's free and anyone can do it as long as you can swim and you're ok with using a snorkel.

Oh duh---I knew what TL was, my brain just wasnting working right at the time!!!! :sad2:

So there is really sharks there????

yes there are sharks, but they're not big and they're bottom dwellers, while you're up top, so you're really pretty safe there.

I remember doing this swim, it was pretty fun, I remember that it is salt water though, you don't want to get any in your mouth!

and that water is COLD :cold:

My DD did it a few years back and there is no glass, she was told not to splash to much so the fish/sharks wouldn't come to the top.

That is certainally a rumor. But everyone else here seemed to already tell you that. I can remember going there when I was really little. I looked down and enjoyed watching the pretty fish. It was fun. Then I got so afraid when I saw the sharks. Because I was so little, I didn't realize that you wouldn't be allowed in there if the sharks were going to come up and hurt you. So, I grabbed hold of my father's back and began to cry. A CM came over to help but I just clung onto my dad's back and never let go. When I got to the side I clammered out so fast and then stood there amazed that I was okay. My dad made to the other end and all I could think about was how brave he was to swim with sharks and not be afraid. Now when I look back to that day I can only think about how much I fun it acually was but I didn't realize it due to the fact I was such a scardy cat!!!! I want to go back and really enjoy it now because I know it could've been soooooo much fun!

Oh man... did you have to say that? LOL I did this once and I'm a BIG scaredy cat when it comes to snorkeling with ANY fish, much less sharks! I was kinda trying to hyperventilate at first but I got through it. My son wasn't a strong swimmer at that time (2003) so he didn't do it... but now he really wants to on our next trip! I'm going to have to do this again and now you have me scared he'll be splashing too much and the sharks will come up top! I'm going to have a heart attack (literally- not joking) if they come up top while I'm in there!

OH NO! nobody wants anybody to have a heart attack!!!! I too am a scardy-cat and if I can servive a shark swimming just under me, you will be okay. I wouldn't worry. People who worry make me worry!!! LOL!!!!!! :guilty: :teeth:

I was more panicked about breathing through that snorkel (I just can't do it and would rather hold my breath!) then I was about swimming with the sharks when I was there last week. Like others have said there is no glass separating you, but all the fish seem to stay way at the bottom. I would have enjoyed it more if I weren't so worried about trying to breath through that snorkel!

When we were there a few weeks ago, I noticed that they had little "boat" rafts for little kids to be pulled by someone. If they had those for adults, maybe I'd do it. I can swim, I'm just a scardy cat too. Never should have seen jaws when I was young.

I was just there on Wednesday and they do have the rafts with the viewing windows for adults if you ask for them. They are great for people that need to use their glasses to see because the masks dont fit over regular glasses.

Btw not all the sharks in the tank are botton feeders (Hammerheads) but they do all stay at the bottom of the tank. My DD8 and I had a blast floating across and would say it is a must do if you are at TL

Could you please tell me more about the rafts. I have a 2 and 4 year old that love the water but aren't good enough swimmers to make it across the tank. Two years ago they didn't have any rafts. We take them fishing all the time in the ocean and they love all the fish (even the sharks ) that we catch so I know they would love to see this!

Untrue.. However, because the animals were not born (at least I think) in the wild, they are a lot more tame than normal sharks. Plus, they probably go through numbers of safety procedures like eels getting the stingers pulled out (which is perfectly okay.. it's just used to protect itself -- which it doesn't need to there). Plus, they are about 5 feet under you because the top of the water is too shallow (kind of like when you take a fish out of the ocean, put it in a bucket, and it lives but bellies up -- it doesn't like it). So no need to be worried, Disney would not let you swim in an unsafe area.

Can you tell I fish a lot?
