Is this a new trend?

Another question for those in the know about "save the date" invitations (another thing I learned about today)... Is the RSVP link typically included with "save the date" invitations?

I have never seen an RSVP for a save-the-date. I've always understood it to be a convenience for guests who may have particular circumstances that require them to be given a generous advance notice of the event. To demand a response so far in advance seems a bit pushy, no?

Thank you all for explaining it to me.

I'm not offended by the email, his parents live about 25 minutes from us and they also were included. The bride and groom live in the NW and we live in the SE, I think that's the reason why they sent it this early.

No - its not a trend for actual invitations and would be considered completely faux pas in my book. It is a trend to do a wedding website and to send out save-the-date cards.
ITA on that...

Jeannie, on the save the date cards (I have already received one for the wedding I am sort of in this June) and there was no RSVP on it. I will get a wedding invitiation in a month or so, and that will have the RSVP on it.
