Is this a good plan for Nassau?

DH, DD and friend, both 19, and myself will be on the May 20th Wonder. We thought we would get off the boat about 10 a.m. and walk around Nassau--visiting the Straw Market, Senor Frogs, Hard Rock Cafe, (teen girls have to shop), and some historic sites like Fort Fincastle and the Queen's Staircase. Would 2-2.5 hours give us enough time? Then we thought we'd go back to the boat for lunch unless you experts think its too much of a hassle. After lunch, the girls want to go to the casino at Atlantis to play a few slots and order a drink since they're of legal age in the Bahamas. I think an hour or so at Atlantis will be long enough. Thought we would be back on the boat between 3-4 p.m. Is this a realistic plan? Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Donna

Sounds like a good plan. We've always gone back to the ship for lunch. You've already paid for it as part of your cruise so why not enjoy.

When we did Atlantis the first time and stopped for a can a pop we found out it cost $2.50. That was enough to convince us to go back to the ship for our "free" lunch.

When we are in a port..we never go back on the ship for meals.
I would only go back on, if your budget doesn't allow for a great meal on the island. Try Conch Fritters...about a block from the straw market, right across the street from a beautiful hotel. The food is wonderful. Very relaxing, great big windows open to the beautiful island breeze.

Are you renting a car, or taking a taxi to the sites..they are not really within walking distance. We did the two hour historic city tour, right away when the ship docked that morning. It was excellent. For about $20 per person we got to see all the famous places, take pics. We were done in time to have a great lunch at conch fritters, visit senor frogs, hard rock cafe and lots of play time at the straw market. It will be a great place for the girls to pick up little gifts for all their friends back home.

We also did some other shopping/looking around. Definately hit the liqour store, and if your hubby is a scotch drinker..he will find great bargains. Our daughter was thrilled with the flavored rums..and oh, yes..taste testing is so much fun in the stores.

We didn't head over to atlantis..we were back on the ship about 5pm, in time to shower and dress for our palo reservation.

Unless you need to be back on the ship for some reason..I wouldn't rush the day.

Me and DW will be on the same cruise and plan on doing the same things you mentioned with the addition of taking a surrey ride around the city.

Can't wait. I'm aready getting a bit wired having to wait so long.

Maybe we will se you there!!

That would be great! I always enjoy meeting my friends from the disboards but with this being our first cruise, just not sure about a good time to set up a dismeet.

I just printed a walking tour and map from the following website:
http://www.frommers.com/destinations/newprovidence/0251010008.html

I just wonder how long a walk it really is from the ship to the Queen's Staircase? We thought about a surrey ride but we'd have to take two and I'm not sure I want two very attractive 19 year old girls in a carriage by theirselves!

Hope you have fun even if we don't meet up!

Let me see...two teenage girls shopping and on a very strict schedule...hmmmm...I would say double the time you have alotted and you might get close...I thought it was interesting about Senor Frogs..in Cozemel that place was hoppin (sorry just had to do it) all day long...In Nassau...it was dead at about 4 pm..we went in had a drink and some chips and salsa and left...expected more partying to be going on.

Donna,

DW and DD (12) and I are sailing on the Wonder on the 20th as well. It sounds like you have an ambitious schedule for Nassau, and I'd agree that swinging back by the boat to eat will provide you with a nice break from an otherwise busy day. You'll need to take a taxi over to PI, but you all should enjoy it there.

Hope to run into you and yours on the ship!

Jim

I think that it will take you more than an hour at the Atlantis. Make sure to walk over to Paradise Islands public beach. It is really nice. You can buy a rum drink in a coconut from some of the locals.
