For 16/8/10 for 14 nights at Fairfield Inn on I Drive Virgin Hols are giving a price of £2191 for 2 adults & a 13 year old. It is cheaper than this year. We usually stay on site & feel a little nervous of I Drive (safety wise). We are also thinking about DIY but this looks like it might be cheaper than the flights?
Please advise as i'm going around in circles thinking about it already.

First of all you will be safe enough...its like walking about Newcastle town center on a Saturday night...just be street savvy like you would at home and you will be fine. Stick to the main street where the crowds are. The Fairfield inn is one of the best rated hotels in Orlando so you know that will not be the issue...the only thing I would say you have to worry about is a) the travel time to Disney and b) not getting the extra magic hours and free parking. With the traffic on Idrive you could be as long as 30 mins to Disney..(20 mins of that just getting off Idrive)..there is also the fact that you cant nip back for a quick nap. So....if you can live with the driving distance and no Disney perks then I say go for it...if you are in doubt I say wait a bit ..you might end up regretting it..2010 is still a bit away..good luck! p.s..Im a brit living here in America now...send me a chip butty!!!!;)

We have stayed at that hotel and loved it - great central venue! I don't know about the cost, but I have stayed on I-Drive a few times and have always felt perfectly safe (apart from the time my friend and I met a flasher early one Sunday morning, but thats a whole other story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I hope it is as we've booked with Virgin for that date.
Where are you staying?
Thanks for the quick replies. Think I will wait as not really sure what i want (well not strictly true would like a month at the contemporay, but it's not gonna happen). Never considered the driving time & DH has never driven abroad before. Pktb mouse - what took you to Texas?

We've booked the Fairfield Inn on I Drive with Virgin through Quidco. So that's a 13% discount.

Driving isn't a problem, it's very easy. It takes about 25 minutes to Disney.

Something you will not see me post very often about a Virgin package in August. Are you ready?..... Its a bargain.:rotfl2:

The hotel for 14 nights is worth about £600-£700 unless the £ gets stonger next year, then that could drop a lot.

Book thru Quidco it will cost £2126 less hotel say £626, you are paying £500 for Virgin flights in August.

Not stayed there but been to look around, we chose Fairfield LBV instead and stayed at LBV every time since we much prefer that area but anyone that likes Idrive its a great price compared to Virgins usual over inflated August prices.

Sharon it seems a good deal, and if Wayne says it is then it must be:rotfl: :thumbsup2

Hope you get some thing sorted:goodvibes

Off topic but I take my DS to swimming lessons and I got talking to someone about disney then about the Dis and she knows you, Im not sure of her name tho but she mentioned you:confused3 its a small world after all:rotfl2:

For Virgin it is a good deal. You will probably do cheaper if you are willing to go indirect but if you are stuck on Virgin then you can't get much better than that for a package in a good hotel.

Oh Wayne, that's set the cat among the pigeons, keep telling DH about your great deals. Must think seriously about this, thought I had plenty of time but don't want to miss a bargain. Do you know if virgin let you book the hotel for part of your hol so you can say book us/ioa hotel or cruse separate?

Thanks Wayne. We usually do package deals from Newcastle but flights were really bad last year so we decided to try Manchester. Also have read your advice re DIY & thought I'd give it a try. Been looking at in direct ones for this year but there quite expensive, i suppose they are quite booked up though. In some ways I feel like trying something new espically if i can do it cheaper but then im also a creature of habit & a bit of a scardy cat.

Don't know about that. Only time we did it we booked package and then left the room empty while we cruised. You would not be able to do it online so would then lose the £65 Quidco cashback.

It looks a good price but they have not released Travelcity direct prices yet, same hol could be cheaper on there.
Glad I don't have to decide on this one:rotfl2:

Hi Kerry, that's Heather with her daughter Olivia. She's Disney nuts & I often ring her or go over to her's for a Disney fix.

Hubby works for Hewlett Packard and got a transfer..Ive been here 12 years now but still miss home. We decided to stay for good 4 years ago. We go to Florida a lot as its only 1 1/2 hours on the airplane..cheap flights about a hundred pound if you book in advance enough. We did drive a few times but we have a 6yr old and a new baby now so Im not driving anytime soon!!!
I think your hubby will be fine driving..your brain just switches...just tell him if its an automatic to tuck his left clutch foot up under him..it helps somewhat...saves you stamping a hole in the floor when you have to break quick. Florida / Orlando area is very well sign posted so you wont get lost. As I said the only bummer is the traffic on International Drive. I dont think its ever not been busy all the times I have been. We used to stay off property when we had no kids but now my little boy just wants to stay at POP Century all the time..he loves it. We tried to tempt him with the new Pirates Rooms at CBR this year but he was having none of it. We are heading down the first week of May this year before the heat hits...texas is just like Florida weather wise. If you need to ask anything dont hesitate, if I can help I will.

We can get Springhill Marriott at LBV for £2478. Is that good?

I was terrified about driving in Florida on our 1st trip 16 years ago. Only experience abroad was Tenerife which I hated.
I could not believe how easy it was in Florida, myself and a relative took it in turns a day each, we both couldn't wait for our turn. I find it way easier to get into driving there than when I return home, Karen has to shout at me to get on the left, so much easier there.

Although we prefer LBV not sure its worth £300 more. I did look and found that. The Marriott Village is great with a car but not sure without, its a fair walk to places, all there is there is Bahama Breeze and Golden Corral.
Doesn't look like they have released all hotels yet, fairfield LBV is not there.

I'm not keen on flying in-direct and having read the reviews on Tripadvisor we thought it was worth a go.

Thanks for all the help you've given. Not going to make any hasty decisions as in 2010 we all have special birthdays & want to try something a little special. It's just I hate missing a bargain. All this looking is making me think we may get a good deal for this year (it would have to be good to twist dh's arm).
