Is this a good buy???

These lens are good standard lens's. not professional grade. This a great price for both of those lens's.

Sigma is a very well known company for lens's. I use several lens's made by them.

As you can see the retail of these products are well above what this retailer wants.

I notice that they have a very good pisitive rating on delivery and such from amazon as well.

18-50mm F3.5-5.6 DC

55-200mm F4-5.6 DC

I have the 55-200 and it is a pretty good lens. The only slight complaints I have about it is the the focus is too slow for action shots and the lens is just a little bit too contrasty for me. I ultimately replaced it with the Canon 70-300 IS USM for the longer reach, faster focusing and image stabilization. But for the money you won't do any better than the Sigma 55-200.

I've heard so much about this lens here, I was just wondering if any of you had any feed back on this deal??/

Also, do you know anything about the company??? I know that some of the online camera stores take a while to come through with the product???

TIA!!!

I paid $75 for that 55-200mm lens on ebay. I've been very happy with this lens. I'll eventually upgrade to a higher quality 200mm lens (maybe with L glass, I can dream I spose) but for now it's a great lens.

Here's a sample at at least a half mile away:

More from that day

the kit lens with a canon is 18-55 and i have used it once to try it out and once to take one picture when i needed a wider angle...i usually use a 28-135 for everyday.
i had a sigma that i had rechipped and it didn't work well with my canon slr nor did it work well with my canon dslr but i know some people love sigma...mine just might have been a lemon since i have heard the quality control is not the greatest with sigma
i think if i was going to get a sigma i'd get the 18-125 for a little bit more since i really don't like changing lens for "ordinary" everyday shots constantly ( that 's the main thing i dislike about the kit lens)and the price would be about the same( +$50 or so) I think. you'd lose a little in the zoom but probably keep your sensor cleaner. some people on here really liked that lens...they also have an 18-200 but that wasn't as well liked( about $300 ish)

Thanks for the responses, everyone!! The one I am really interested in is the 55-200. I didn't know if grouping them together like that was a better deal. I looked around a little, then decided to ask all of you knowledgeable people what you thought!!

rtphokie- great shot!!! I'm off to look at the rest now!!

You can get a Canon Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III lens for about $150 these days.
