Cool new tool available from the site Hopper.com It is a price information aggregator that collects ALL prices for all flights on a given route for research purposes, and it will tell you what the average price is on that route right now. It is a very useful tool for determining if the price you are seeing for a given ticket is a good one or a bad one.

Note that you cannot purchase flights with this tool; it is for information only. It also will not really help you with pricing flights at peak-demand periods, as those are not "average" in any way.
