Is this a crazy idea?

I will be coming to Disney for a conference in February (yes, during President's week) and will be staying at the Yacht & Beach Club (which is where the conference is at). However, I don't have my confirmation yet or anything and my 180 days is coming up soon and there are a few restaurants that I really want. Would it be insane to book a room, pay the deposit to make sure I can book my reservations and then cancel the room later when I get my confirmation for my conference? I just don't want to miss out on taking advantage of the 180+10 since I don't have the confirmation yet (it goes through my work and the organization putting on the conference). I hope that doesn't sound shadey or anything, as that is not my intent. I know we'll be there and I know we'll be staying on property, and really want to have the best shot at getting CRT and BOG for my kiddos that will be coming with me.

I have a similar dilemma! I am booked to arrive 2/17 but I want BOG for 2/26 - which is 180+9. I'm wondering if I should add a day just to make sure I get the first crack at it? Or will I be okay at 180+9??

Since the website links all of your reservations (room, dining, etc.) under your account, will you be in danger of the ADRs being automatically cancelled when you cancel the room? I don't know the answer to that, but it may be something to look into.

When free dining was coming out, my reservation was already booked thru AAA, my TA had to be the one to call and change it. I was so worried my room choice would be gone, I booked a second reservation myself online just to make sure! :) so no, I don't think your crazy at all! My TA ended up getting just what I needed and I canceled the ressie I had made. No harm no foul! Hope this helps!
