Is this a crazy idea? Universal for an evening?

DH are going to Disney with my family (grand gathering) in June. One of the days we are there is our anniversary - 19 years! My parents kindly offered to keep the kids for the evening so we could go to dinner. Now I am thinking it might be fun to go over to Universal for the evening and ride some of the big coasters. I guess the best ticket price is about $65 each so pretty expensive for a few hours but might be worth it IF the lines would not be too bad.

What do you think you would do? We would only have from about 5ish until park closing. We have a car but would be off site, so no front of the line. Is it worth it or would we be better off enjoying a dinner somewhere nice on Disney property? Or a third possibility would maybe be city Walk?

That would work but make sure you're going when the parks are open until 9pm at least. The crowds aren't usually bad in the evenings so the lines should be relatively light...I would think. Oh BTW...the coasters run much faster in the evenings after a hot day...trust me.

A lot depends on when you're going. When we were there in August 2007 (2nd & 3rd week) we found that while the lines weren't as long as they were during the day, the big coasters still had pretty long lines. One night Hulk had an hour (down from 2 hours during the day), Spiderman was 35 min (down from 90 min during the day), Dueling Dragons was 50 min (down from 90 min during the day), and Jurassic Park was 35 min (down from 90 min during the day).

As others have said, it's really going to depend on the lines. I go a lot at night, but I have a premier pass so I get FOTL after 4 p.m. Still, I have to say that most evenings the standby lines are not bad unless it's in the very busy season. If you catch a night when the parks are open late enough, you should be okay (although the late nights tend be during those busy seasons...a Catch-22).

if you are unsure about being at the parks cause of the lines, how about dinner at a place like emerald's or one of the other really nice restaurants at on the the universal hotels and then a night at citywalk?
