read last year that there was plenty of I-4 construction & others suggested pathways to get around it. is there still problems? & what are the best ways to miss out.

we are heading toward orlando from daytona way.

& once there , traveling back & forth from diz area to universal & back

I-4 is being rebuilt between Longwood (North of Orlando in Seminole County) and Kirkman Rd (by Universal). The project started in Feb 2015 and is expected to take 6.5 years to complete.

As the PP suggested, you could go South on I-95 to SR-528 (toll).
You could also take I-4 and get on SR-417 (toll) in Sanford. The SR-417 exits for Disney are 3 & 6.

As I noted above, one end of the rebuild starts in Universal area so you can really avoid a small portion of it when going between WDW & Univeral.

Which one would be best a Friday evening during rush hour (based on previous years will be in Orlando around 5pm)? We are driving straight-thru from Canada on Feb 25-26 and the last thing we want is to get stuck in traffic on the last stretch of our journey! And which one would be the cheapest or are they about the same? We have a Sunpass...

417. There's not typically a terrible backup at rush hour unless there's an accident. It's more expensive than 528 though, more tolls.
