Is there still a Discovery Island

Does Discovery Island still exist? I've been there a few times. One took a boat out to it. There as a nice quiet beach, and trails through the island. I was a great way to get away from the crowds for some quiet and even a bit of solitude.

Discovery Island, as you and many others like you, is no longer in operation. The island is closed to visitors and has been the subject of more than a little bit of conjecture, opinion and other rumours re: it's future.

You will find bits and pieces of the collective memory of Discovery Island transplanted into Disney's Animal Kingdom. The central hub of AK is called Discovery Island. The trails among the birds and the primates can be found in both the Pangani trail and the Maharajah Jungle Trek. I think it has been gone for quite a while; isn't that where they put Wildernwess Lodge?

Discovery Island has been closed since AK opened, and the animals were moved to the new park.

How sad. It was a little gem of tranquility admist everything.
