Is there somewhere I can read up on how to make a reservation?

It's been several years since I've made a reservation at 11 months out and I want to make sure I'm doing it right so I have the best chance of getting a Grand Villa. I'm going to need to bank points for the transaction too. I think I should call member services instead of going online to do it. I can make it 11 months out from the check in date, right?

Yes, 11 months from the check in date. Online booking opens 1 hour before the phone system opens so if there's a concern for you about getting the room you should study up and practice booking online.
You also should bank the points you need sometime prior to the date you will try and reserve. It can be done as it's own transaction under the Manage Vacation points section. Or you could call in to have MS help doing that.

For the reservation you can actually go thru and practice making a reservation for a time that has a lot of availability. Just don't finalize by completing the booking. I can't think of any place that you can read about it but it is fairly straight forward. I think if you give it a try you'll find you'll be able to do it fine for the GV reservation.

Good luck!

Don’t be afraid of the program. Just go practice.

Try making several different reservations. Go through all the steps except the last one. Fill out the names and addresses. Specify which contract you want to provide the points. You can even agree to borrow points (they won’t actually be borrowed until you finalize). But at the end, the last screen, you will see a checkbox that says that you agree to DVC Rules. To REALLY make the Reservation, YOU WOULD CHECK THAT BOX, THEN CLICK ON THE GREEN BUTTON BELOW TO FINALIZE IT AND BOOK THE RESERVATION. DO NOT DO THIS LAST STEP. Instead, just start hitting the BACK button in the bottom left corner of the screens. Start backing out through all of the screens. Everything will go back to how it was when you started, because you won’t actually have COMPLETED a reservation. Do this process several times until you are familiar with it and confident.

IF YOU DO HAPPEN TO MAKE A MISTAKE AND DONT WANT THE RESERVATION, JUST CANCEL IT. AS LONG AS YOU ARE MORE THAN THIRTY DAYS OUY, AND AS LONG AS YOU HAVENT BORROWED POINTS, THEN, NO HARM - NO FOUL.

Thank you both very much. But can I really go in and do all those steps now? Wont I get a message that its too early to make a reservation for those dates? That's why I didn't think I could try to make those reservations yet.

I have another question. If I can't get the Grand Villa right now and have to reserve two other rooms can I do them all at once or do I have to reserve one room and go back in and reserve the second one?

You would just practice with different dates (dates don't really matter because you're not actually booking it).

You would book one room after the other....you can't actually book 2 rooms at once.

I just tried to do a booking and it won't even let me go past Oct 2019. I looked at Grand Villas at 11 months from now and I could see what information is needed so I feel a little better about it. I will definitely bank those points before I book though.

Yeah, I did see that. Do you think it would make any difference which room I would book first-a 2 bedroom or a 1 bedroom?

Typically 1 bedrooms are the last to get booked so I'd go with the 2 bedroom first.

As mentioned you would practice on different dates that are within the 11 month window or even the 7 month window just so you can get a feel for how it works.

You should try to make some practice reservations within the seven month window so that you can see which Resorts still have good availability. Just a bit more data to help understand how the reservations are going over all.
