Or is this just a funky year? No rooms at any DVC resort at all, and this is supposed to be a SLOW time of year? Am I missing something? Just curious, not mad. :goodvibes

Yes, you're missing something ;). Early December is actually a very busy time of year for DVC. The point charts go down to Adventure Season making staying somewhere cheap and the Christmas decorations are up putting everyone in a holiday mood.

FWIW, I would never take this time off since I have a kid in school. I can't see taking her out of school just a couple weeks before she has a long break.

Thanks for the input. This is our first year for DVC, although we go often since we live in Florida, and every member I have spoken with says it's a slow time. :goodvibes Just wondered if there was something unusual this year or if I needed to plan differently in the future. Thank you!!

The members you have talked to are, frankly, crazy. Early December has long been a very, very busy season for the DVC resorts. It is "low season" but that is only in terms of points and not the occupancy rates, at least historically.

Hahahahaha. That made me laugh out loud. Sounds like you know them personally! :rotfl2:

You may be able to get something a few months out - but we're planning on making our ressies for next Dec 3rd at the 11 mo window. I'm sure there will still be openings at the 7 mo window as well, but I'm not taking a chance! We've been on these boards for a little over a year - and the first 2 weeks of Dec have always been talked about as being a very busy time for DVC - although slow for the rest of WDW. Sorry it may not work out for you very well this year.....

Many guidebooks list the first of December as a slower time of the year but that is based on park attendance and not resort occupancy.

As stated this is a very popular time for DVC members to go due to lower points and lots to do and see.

Also with the 50 Year Celebration it is has just been busy pretty much every month.

Since at least 93 - DVC resorts by DVC members have been in demand for early Dec.

sorry - your friends were just incorrect. or lucky - some people are. they can call a month or less before they leave and get a villa.

I would plan now for next year and make your reservations in Jan for next Dec.

now if your friends aren't talking about the DVC resorts. then yes, WDW resorts are easy to get now. Although some of them have sold out too.

Our kids here (Saratoga Springs, NY) only get a week off this year as Christmas falls on a Sunday. That certainly isn't a long break in my eyes. This is one of those years to take the kids out of school. Besides I am of the group that will never visit WDW during a school break period, it is just madness. Missing a week of school here and there won't ruin a child's education.

Do you think DVC will reevaluate the points and adjust them to DVC members tendency to book early Dec.? or is by keeping the points low, a good way to assure occupancy during a time that is otherwise considered to be slow for resorts and parks?

Dave-I'm right there w/ you on thaschool thing-and I am a teacher!Shhh!

I believe when we signed up we were guaranteed that the number of points to stay in a given week would not change - which means low season will always be so many points for a week - and this time frame is based on park occupancy not DVC occupancy

they are accomplishing exactly what they want to - enticing DVC members to come during low attendance times

No. We were guaranteed that the total number of points for a given room for an entire YEAR would not change.

That's not true. The total points for the year cannot change, but the point chart can be adjusted. So far, it's only happened once, and only at OKW. At OKW, the points for Adventure Season were increased and the points for Premier Season were decreased. DVC can also adjust when seasons begin and end, but, again, the overall points for the year cannot change because the points represent an actual deeded real estate lease with a fixed value.

But they're being too successful in the case of the Food & Wine Festival and the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

OH - I get it -

Still seems though that they couldn't really mess with it too much!!

While this may be a slow time as far as attendance is concerned, it is a very busy week for the DVC resorts. The combination of low points and all the holiday festivities make it a very good time of year to visit WDW. That being said, we've never had trouble getting what we wanted at 7 mos out.

As far as Disney in general, this is a very slow time. At the MK this morning every ride was a walk on. Between 9:15 and 10:15 this morning we did BTMRR 3 times, Splash Mountain once, and hit Aladdin's Magic Carpets.

Hopefully the Christmas party isn't too crowded tonite.
