Is there anyway to use Marriott/Interval at WDW?

My folks have 2 weeks of Marriott Aruba timeshare that they are no longer using. I'm looking into selling it for them. They also have "banked" weeks" which I understand to be in Interval International. So I have all of these things and all I want to do is go to WDW.

Understand when I say WDW I mean staying on property at either resort or DVC. We've stayed at the Marriott properties outside of WDW and it's just not the same.

So my question is this: Is there any exchange program that would allow this? Most of the threads I ready are now very old and I know that at one point Disney had an affiliation with Interval but now has a relationship with RCI.

Still, hoping there is some way to do some kind of exchange. Figured it was worth checking into.

Thanks,

nothing formal. you'd have to find an individual DVC owner who was willing to make a DVC reservation for you in exchange for you booking a marriott reservation for them.

lots of trust involved there - those sorts of transactions are extremely rare. IMO, you might as well sell the marriott weeks.

There are also forums on the Internet where you could try renting out those Aruba weeks, then use the cash to rent from a DVC owner.

As it happens, I just returned from a week in Aruba where we stayed next door to the Marriott timeshare resorts. DH and I walked around the grounds of both of them and thought they looked like great places to stay. I would think you would have no problem renting them out.

You could try to do a private exchange with a DVC member. Disney trades with RCI now, so Interval wouldn't work.

Have you tried Marriott's new Lakeshore Reserve resort in Orlando? It's the nicest timeshare I've ever stayed at bar none. And we own DVC. :thumbsup2

I would NOT trade directly with a DVC owner. Your Marriott is worth more IMHO. I'd book a res. and rent it on redweek and then use some of the proceeds to rent a DVC week. DVC is on RCI. Since they moved from II to RCI, trades have become very, very easy to get...so easy that people clearly make a business out of grabbing the trades and renting them (and RCI just doesn't care apparently). When you see a $95 fee at check-in on a listing, it's a trade.

TUG2 is a great resource BTW. I saw that someone else mentioned it. FWIW, Marriott Lakeshore Reserve is gorgeous...we only stay in DVC when we can't get Lakeshore.

Folks have traded into Disney through RCI using their other timeshares. I've even wondered if it my be a lower cost alternative to buying in to DVC. Wouldn't it be great to take a free timeshare in Branson, pay low maintenance, and always trade into DVC. I can't say for certain that it's not viable, but from I've read on TUG and DIS it's not a route I would want. Too much uncertainty as to whether a trade would occur, where in DVC it would be. To me, worth it to just buy DVC. More power to those folks that are able to trade in though.

Also, I think the TS that you do have has some value in resale. You should look into what you can get and how much DVC that would translate to.

I have no doubt that some people do RCI exchanges for DVC and then rent them on eBay and other venues.

But readers should be advised that renting one of those exchanges is very risky. Renting RCI exchanges is a violation of both RCI and DVC rules for exchanges.

So if either organization detected a rented exchange, the reservation could be cancelled without notice, and without recourse or any compensation. The inadequately-educated vacationer would show up at the DVC resort and find they had nowhere to stay and nowhere to turn. I can't think of a more disastrous vacation fiasco.

Would RCI or DVC really do that? I have no direct knowledge, but I think some others here may have. I have heard that it has actually happened.

There really aren't many options unless they are in the points program. One should be able to sell them for a decent amount, esp if Platinum or Platinum plus and or ocean front. The fees have been historically high there, likely better to sell them than try to rent them out unless you wanted to use them. You could potentially convert them to the points system but still wouldn't be able to use them for Disney. Good luck and as a Marriott owner, I'm always happy to try to help for anyone that wanted to contact me privately.

As you're already aware, DVC is affiliated with the RCI system, not with the Interval International (II) system (although DVC used to be affiliated with the II system).

Because the weeks have already been deposited into II, they can be used to trade into another II-affiliated resort. Other options mentioned in this thread, such as doing a direct trade with a DVC member or renting out for cash, are not options for the weeks deposited into II.

Be sure you know the expiration date. Also, make sure you understand what your folks mean by "banked." It probably just means deposited into II, but it could mean something else.

Unfortunately, that's not an option through II.

However, you might want to give other Marriott Vacation Club resorts a chance. There are seven MVCI resorts in the Orlando area. They're all very nice, even though they are not on-site at WDW. The oldest ones are well maintained and are close to WDW. The newest one (Marriott's Lakeshore Reserve) is quite high-end, but a longer drive to WDW.

So my question is this: Is there any exchange program that would allow this? Most of the threads I ready are now very old and I know that at one point Disney had an affiliation with Interval but now has a relationship with RCI.

There are smaller exchange companies, which you could use for weeks that have not already been deposited into II. However, you're unlikely to find DVC owners using these exchange companies. DVC owners buy into to DVC to stay at DVC resorts. They have the option of using RCI without having to pay a separate RCI annual membership fee, so in the relatively rare cases that DVC members want to trade to a non-DVC timeshare resort, RCI is the convenient option.

I agree with Dean that selling the Marriott Aruba Surf Club weeks seems to be the best option. If you want to stay at DVC resorts regularly in the future, you could buy into DVC, either through Disney or on the resale market.
