Is there anything spoilery?

My daughter is halfway through the 5th Harry Potter book. I'm hoping she can finish before we go at the beginning of June. I think she should be able to. Is there anything that we will see that might give away anything in the 6th and 7th books for her?

The Gringotts ride takes place during a scene from 7, but I wouldn't necessarily call it spoilery. It's just a set piece from the movie.

The Weasley joke shop is one of the stores. That doesn't happen until book 6. Getting through book 5 is good as otherwise there'd be more spoilers on Knockturn Alley.

I would say spoilery is all about context...although there are many places and sites in the HP section, I don't know that there is enough context to say anything is a spoiler.

Thanks all! Sounds like she might ask questions, but nothing that I can't either deflect or just answer that won't really give much away (i.e. "yes, the Weasley brothers do open a joke shop").

Maybe just let her watch the movies so she knows the whole story before she goes. Oh course I don't have kids. I saw the movies and listened to the books on CD years ago (at that time I was driving 4 to 5 hours a day for work) and it's a different experience and still enjoyable after watching the movies. I would say there is nothing obvious that is given away in the park but maybe she would have a different appreciation for things if she knows how things end.

So sweet. I forget that kids can't watch some movies. I accidentally let my niece and nephew watch Ms. Perigrin's Home for Special Kids (or whatever it is) they were 9 and 11. It's PG-13 and I forgot about the monsters eating children's eyes. That might be the last time I get to watch the kids - LOL. To me it's a kids movie but I didn't know they can't watch PG-13 per their parents.

Book 5 is the longest and most exhausting in the series so it's understandable.

I would just skip riding "Escape from Gringotts". Dunno if they'll allow you to tour the queue but it might be worth a shot.

I don't think Weasley Wizard Wheezes will be much of a spoiler, since it was establish since book 4 that the twins have wanted to go into business for themselves anyway.

That's really awesome of you, and I'm super-proud of you for knowing her and knowing when to call a halt.

LOL. My son is 12 (and currently begging to watch Mission Impossible, Psycho, and Jaws, oh and The Shining HA HA HA HA HA...NO, kid) and cannot bear the idea of seeing that movie after the HP marathon week. The theater we went to see 6 of the HP movies had a big standee from that movie, and Samuel Jackson's eyes glowed red and it spooked him so much every time he went to or from the bathroom!

Man, no kidding! We're reading them aloud together. It's fun for me to re-experience it through her eyes because I love the books, but boy I forgot what a slog book 5 is at points. And things just get to be such a bummer with all the Hem Hem Umbridge stuff.

I was in the same situation 2 years ago -- my younger DS was 8 and by the time we were going, we would have only read through The Order of the Phoenix. I don't think the Weasley joke shop, the dragon, or the Gringotts ride itself will spoil anything, but this will.... in the Gringotts queue, there are Daily Prophet headlines regarding a very important character's death and another very important character becoming headmaster. However, it will be easy enough to keep her from looking at those as long you know about them ahead of time (I'm glad I got a heads-up). Other than that, I don't think the other things she's not familiar with yet are spoilers. Have fun!

And today I was reading that some Hogwarts Running Club people were leaving roses at Snape's door (in the FJ queue?) and having a moment of silence...it might be mystifying to those halfway through (who didn't have faith like my family did!) why some might do that. Also mystifying why someone would be proud to have a Snape wand! They might get some hints.

Then again, we're kidding ourselves if we think our kids don't know. My son is homeschooled and goes to the Y for dance classes. And while we were reading the last books he mentioned it, and some random elementary school kids at the "drop in zone" at the Y told him just about everything.

It's been 20 years since the first book. People know and people talk.

She already asked me, "Does --------- die?" I sort of evaded the question and asked, "Why would you say that?" She said she was finding a HP soundtrack on Spotify to listen to and she found a playlist with a bunch of songs from all the soundtracks and one of the songs was called "The death of ----------" I told her to stop listening to soundtracks for movies/books she hasn't experienced yet!

We were there right after Alan Rickman died and there were flowers at Snape's door. I figured that's why. Easily explained away if you look at it that way.
