cos we are close to making a decision to buy in but with such a big decision and amount of initial outlay it is a major desicion and we need some encouragement from people who live near with experience the user year confuses me a bit how do you know when it should be also my favourite dvc is and has always been board walk villas ive always dreamed of staying in them and hope they can still sell me bwv also i dont understand why or how buying points at 2 resorts works does it mean you have 2 home resorts or can you combine the points so many questions sorry for waffling on

Hiya

I dont live near you unfortunately. We have recently brought the AKV in December on our last trip.

Okay you want to stay at BW. I will try and help you. You can still buy these, but they are re-sales. You wont get the full term as you would with SSR or AKV. If you bought 225 pts with a referal you get 150 free developer points if you paid off the 30% down payment or financed it on your own back and paid in full. Thats the SSR offer.

The use year is when you get your points into your account. Not when you should stay or use your timeshare. We have chosen October. As this is the time of year we would want to go or December. October meant we had enough points to go in October in a 1 bed apartment and if we wanted to go in December we were either able to stay longer or bank some extra points. They call it your birthday. Every Ocober we would get our 216 points. We have up to May to decide if we want to bank or use them. You can book at anytime of the year upto 11 months departure date at your home resort, but 7 months at any other DVC resort.

You can stay at BW but own elsewhere. It just means that you cant book until 7 months window. These are popular hotels due to location especially Sept and Oct with the food and wine festival.

I would first look at when you are going to go. You would know how many points you would need. Where you want to stay. I.e would you want cheaper annual dues and chance your accomodation at BW or would you want gaurentee that you would be staying at BW. Then go from there.

It is a big commitment. We figured after three holidays its paid for itself.

Have a think of what you want from it and go from there.

My agent was Jim McCoy who I have been speaking to for the past three years, before we took the plunge. I am so happy we did. Cant wait to stay at AKV in Jan 09.

If you want Jim's number. Pm me and he will return your call so you dont need to pay for it. He can explain all the benefits from a re-sale to new development. Any other q's you have.

Good luck.

Hi Charlie, we're in Wiltshire (Calne) - whereabouts are you?

We bought DVC back in February last year and look at it more as pre-paid accommodation. As far as use years go, we have a September use year as we figure we are most likely to go to WDW in September or October. Due to cancellation policies, banking rules etc. it makes sense to have a use year which is around the time that you are more likely to visit. So, if you always visit in July, then a June/July use year would be good.

As Michelle said, you can buy DVC at Boardwalk but it would have to be through resale. I am not 100% certain if a non-DVC owner can buy points at sold out resorts direct through Disney or not :confused3

If you want to know anything else, just post here or feel free to PM me :)

Non-owners CAN buy at sold-out resorts through Disney but they may have to be assertive when telling the DVC guide exactly what they want. The guides don't offer this information and, according to reports, may even indicate that they can only sell the current offerings of SSR or AKV - that's when you need to be assertive ;) You may need to wait for points to become available, but if you are prepared to be flexible on the Use Year the wait may not be too long.

No discounts or offers available on sold-out resorts though.

We live in Wiltshire - Swindon - and have owned BCV for a few years. If you need any questions answered, let me know.

we go in July every year and have a use year of December, we didn't get a choice but it works well for us. we know once we have booked out next years holiday we won't be going again until the following year so we bank around now, that is if we have any points to bank :rotfl:

we wanted SSR so we didn't need to buy re-sale but like others have said try and buy where you want to stay.

we booked Vero Beach at the 7 month window for the following July and it wasn't a problem

we live in west swindon and this is a hard decision cos i want to buy in as i am a disneyholic, but my husband although he likes disneyworld doesnt like the thought of going there every year unlike me id like to stay and never have to go home ha ha i would be paying it of in one go i havent yet talked to anyone else cos i missed the call from betty prikkyle before xmas and she didnt ring back, my husband says he would want to be able to use the points to go to some other places such as las vegas or california etc he doesnt want to just go every year to disney, but i dont know how easy that would be to actually exchange out and how many points that might take

i have the money for the points but im having trouble to make the call to the guide i missed her call before xmas the problem is my husband is not a disney fanatic like i am and although he enjoys the odd stay there he wouldnt want to go year after year unlike me he says he would want to use the points to go elswhere other than disney so i dont know how that would work out cos i dont seem to be able to find any threads on many who do this

i absolutely love everything disney and i cant imagine wanting to go anywhere else given the chance how do i get around buying into dvc and also pleasing my husband by also using points to go elswhere cos in the dream book they sent me it looks to be to many points to go to tokyo disney where he wouldnt mind going or the disney cruise, also how easy is it to exchange the points to use the interval international to go to say las vegas thanks for your input
