Is there any well made living room furniture anymore?

Another vote for flex steel. My set has been through MANY moves and has held up beautifully one the last years we have had it. Looks like brand new.

Ethan Allen is very good.

Stay far away from Ethan Allen. I had a sofa and loveseat come apart at the cording on the cushions within 1 1/2 years and we had no kids, no dogs and were never home. Our new house still had the new house smell.

I also had wood furniture that had to be replaced twice before it was finally fixed. The repair guy and I were on a first name basis and I never had to give directions to my house after the first time.

At one point I had the president of the local franchise at my house to look at my crappy furniture since he didn't believe it could be so bad.

We bought a sectional from Bassett at the end of Sept. and love it. We have two teens, a dog and four cats. We chose leather and it is really easy to keep clean with all the pets. Very sturdy piece of furniture and with a sale price, it wasn't much more than the fall apart furniture we were finding at Ashley and Furniture Row.

Also bought a lovely entertainment unit at the same time. very well made. We are happy with all the pieces.

raymour and flanagan has quality furniture, but youll pay for it........

Our sofa is "Rowe Furniture". We bought it at a local chain six years ago, and the only thing wrong with it is that the cushions are a bit warped from where I've been sitting my butt on it for six years. The covers zip off, though, so I'm probably just going to get new cushions made to fit the covers. Planning on having it professionally cleaned this summer, too.

No idea if this is a national brand or not, but we bought a "chair and a half" and a sofa six years ago this month and other than the foam cushions being worn out, there's nothing wrong with the actual sofa.

Stickley furniture is very well made and classic, lasts forever.

Lee Industries also makes serious sofas and chairs - kiln dried, hand tied, joints screwed, steel springs, natural materials.

I'm not familiar with Lee Industries, although it sounds great, but I agree with Stickley. It's high quality and has a pricetag to match, but last I checked, it still wasn't quite as expensive as Henkel Harris and some others.

Yeah, Stickley isn't cheap - neither is Lee, they're in the 2 to 3 grand for a sofa category - but it's high quality stuff.

I think at the point the OP is buying mid-range stuff and replacing every few years is when I'd look into ticking up to the spendier range, if possible, for stuff that will last, which I think the OP was asking for.

Check out Lee Industries, they're defined by the quality/classic deal, same as Stickley. Their sofas and chairs come hand signed by the carpenter, sewer, who put them together.

I have some La-z-Boy furniture in my living room that's 19 years old. The sofa is finally showing some wear in the fabric in a few places and I will likely replace it soon, even though it's structurally fine. The 2 chairs I bought with it are still perfect; just looking a little dated decor wise.

2 years ago I bought a custom sectional from a local store called Walter E. Smithe. A few days before they delivered it, they let me know there was a flaw in the fabric of all the back cushions. They told me they ordered all new cushion covers, but would deliver it as scheduled, and replace the cushions after the new ones were made. I gotta tell you - the flaw was so minor, I'd have likely never noticed. Any other marginal furniture store probably never would have said a word and hoped I wouldn't notice. I was so impressed, that I would go back to them to buy furniture in a heartbeat - especially upholstered pieces. The quality is exceptional. And it really wasn't outrageously priced. So my advice to you is to find a local store that offers some custom, quality pieces.

I vote for Flex Steel also. I bought a reclining Flex Steel sofa on craigslist about 4 years ago and you could not tell that it was used. I paid $125 for it and It has held up through kids and pets. It still is in great shape and it will probably hold up another 10 years.

I'm starting to see a pattern here...
We also vot for Flexsteel

We have a 30 year old sectional in the basement. It is still in amazing shape. this is after tons of kids "jumping on it" and husbands sleeping on it, dogs playing on it etc.

Our next one will only be flexsteel!
