there are portable devices that will allow you to copy your cards to them..

flashtrax, wolverine flashpac,

are a few

I used a similar device my last trip to WDW, I'd shoot all day at the parks, then transfer my pics at night, reformat my cards and be ready to shoot the next day

if you'd like more info pm me..

I believe you can also take them to the photo shops at WDW and they will burn them to a disk for you (for a fee, of course). If you have an IPod, you can buy a device that lets you put your photos on it. Slow, but works well.

Not sure what im gonna do ..Im just leary about loosing all my important pics..
I need a surprise lap top i guess...lol :confused3 I guess im off to buy a poop load of memeory cards lol ..Thanks any other ideas????

I've used one of the photovault devices previously described. They work well but the ones with color screens to look at the pics can get a little pricey. There are some with built in CD writers (card to CD) and some that are portable hard disks that connect to a PC later. There are also some combo devices that act as MP3 players in addition to readers. Here's a link to some further information I had found some time ago that may give you some ideas...

I recently purchased a Sony dvdirect vrd-mc3. You can burn pictures from memory cards to a dvd with out a computer.....

you can also move videos from VCR's, camcorders and DVR's to dvds.

I took it on vacation with me recently and it was great. I backed up my pictures and video each night.

There is a newer version of the Dvdirect out there.... a mc5 I think... but the mc3 worked great for me.

The ideal solution is a laptop with a DVD burner. For your situation, however, I think a bunch of memory cards is a reasonable solution. They're cheap.

although cards are indeed fairly cheap, there are some portable devices on ebay right now which are much cheaper dollar per gig,

you can get a 100 gig device for 100 dollars

What size card are you getting?

I just got a Canon S3, and I set it to take really "big" pictures. I used a 1GB SD card over 5 days at Disneyland, then 9 days with my brother in San Diego, and took upwards of 600 pictures. And my 1GB card didn't fill up. I felt like a fool with my other 1GB card and my 2GB card, sitting in my camera bag, not getting used....

Hehehehhee,

I am picturing all the people pointing and laughing. Because somehow they know you have extra memory cards in your camera bag?

Luck is 99% preparation. I would rather have the memory and not need it.

Just remember the important of redundancy... if I take a portable hard drive backup solution (whether a dedicated one, an MP3 player, or whatever), ideally you'll want two of them, each storing the same data. Portable hard drives are notoriously unreliable and you're running the risk of losing everything you've put on it if it does decide to fail.

If I only had one option, I'd go with more memory cards... that's the least hassle and memory cards are easily more reliable than hard drives. I've recently bought a pair of 4 gig SD cards for $20 each, free shipping, and 2 gig SD cards for under $10. I passed on an 8 gig for $40. You should easily be able to find 2 gig SD cards for $20 almost any time. If your camera is SDHC-capable, keep an eye out for a good deal on a 4+ gig card.

Of course, that assumes that your camera uses SD cards. If not, you won't be able to get such good deals (figure twice the cost, probably) but you can probably still pick up some big ones for not too much money.

wow you make it sound like every person carrying a laptop, should be carrying a backup, I know all hard drives will fail at some point in time, but if they are notoriously unreliable as you put it, I'd think college students everywhere would be toasting laptops daily, I know quaite a few who have made it thru 4 years of school with a laptop

I've ben using my portable storage unit for years with no problems, and I know a lot of pros that rely on them heavily..??

have we all been lucky ??

This looks cool. I don't know how much one would cost tho. It stores and you can view the pictures.

I have many memory cards- I just use them. I don't travel with my laptop- the camera gear and video camera is plenty. If I was going to back them up to a laptop or hard drive, tho, I think I'd still keep them on the memory cards to be safe. They are fairly inexpensive these days. 2 years ago when I bought my D50- I thought I was getting a good deal when I paid 1/2 price
($60each) for 2-1GB Ultra2 cards. Now you can get 2GB ones for under $20.

Im even more confused now then i was ...I read up on some of the reveiws and it is either way good and bad ..So i dont no ...:confused3
i guess i will take my good ole film camera as well ..And buy a bunch extra sd cards ......Any more ideas??? Thanks Lori

Like I said in my incredibly technical way..."and I set it to take really "big" pictures."

Camera is in the other room, I'm lazy today, not going to go fetch it to answer specifically, but I always have it set to take, if not the "biggest" allowable, but almost so, pictures. It's why I bought so many cards, b/c I thought we were going to need them, since I wasn't lugging my MacBook with me!

Lori, what kind of cards does your camera take?

If its SD, then you can get 2GB cards for about $14. Amazon.com and buy.com both have the Kingston 2GB SD card for $14. Buy.com has it with free shipping, amazon you have to spend $25 for free shipping. 2GB CF cards start around $22 or you can get a 4GB CF card for about $36. newegg.com also has the Kingston 2GB SD card for $14 + shipping and a Kingston 2GB CF card for $24 w/shipping. 4GB CF cards there are around $30 and 4GB SD cards are around $25.

This might be your best bet.

I went with 7 2GB SD cards on my last trip, though I was shooting RAW and only got about 330 or so pictures on each card. I get almost twice that if I shoot in JPEG. My camera has 6MP.

IMO, its better to have to much memory than find out later that you don't have enough.
