Sure, call the post office and ask for the postmaster; he's the boss.

That was going to be my suggestion also

Yep, go down to the post office and ask to speak to the PostMaster. Unfortunately, we had to do the same thing a few years ago. Our carrier kept marking our mail "No Such Address" and returned it. At the time, we were only 1 of about 5 houses in a new development. He hated coming into our neighborhood and didn't mind showing it.

thanks for the suggestions. :) i am embarassed to say i don't know much about the post office structure. :o

yep talk to the postmaster at your local po. I've complained about 2 different mail carriers. One who simply didn't deliver the mail - we are talking about a week with no mail not even junk and then we'd get an overstuffed box then no mail for a week or so..........

The second just wouldn't stop delievering the wrong mail. We had a small subdivision of about 30 houses every day around 6-630 the entire neighborhood would be out redestributing the mail to the right houses.

Our mail carrier screws up all the time - Leaving the mail in the wrong mailbox, etc.....
One day she was "off" by one house for like 5 houses in a row (meaning: I got neighbors on right's mail, she got neighbor's on HER left's mail, etc.....)

I have also had problems with her not bothering to knock on my door to give me a package (that needs to be signed for) - even when I AM HOME. Instead, will leave a card in the mail saying "we tried to leave a package, etc......" Then I have to drive to the Post Office to get it only to find out she hasn't gotten back yet (even though it's almost 5:00 pm), so I can't pick up the damn package anyway.

Our mail carrier some times takes or mail (to be sent out) from our box and some times he doesn't. He just shoves new mail on top of it. I have heard though that they don't have to. So DH just takes it to work and mails it. It's annoying though. Either take it all the time or don't. And this has only been recently. We had no problem before.

call your Postmaster . He is in charge and will (most of the time) help you out.

Our old old old mail delivery man would open up our Playboy and read it before hubby and I did.
OF course this was a few hundred years ago!!

be forewarned though, I called the postoffice to complain about my mail carrier and they must have told my mailcarrier that I, specifically, had complained about him. He ruined our mail worse.

He still ruins it. I get subscriptions with only the front cover in a plastic baggy that says the post office is sorry. Nothing but the front cover!

I've emailed the post office (generic email) about this...I think things have been getting better.

I'm moving anyway in 2 weeks so oh well.

Us mail folk take our job very seriously, so if you have a complaint against one of us, I would definitely take it up with a supervisor.

You should be getting all of your mail...

I think I'd better get onto my deliveries, then. I sure hope I don't have any of caitycaity's packages in this here mail bag that's sitting right now to my bar stool...

But first, I need to finish my beer.

That would also be my only worry - RETALIATION. Remember that term "going postal"............just be careful. Hope it works out.

Years ago we complained about a letter carrier here. Far as we could tell nothing was done and we had a lot of incoming office mail "lost" until that carrier retired.

cliff, don't you live in boston? :p i don't think you have any of my mail. :teeth:

yeah, i didn't think about retaliation. maybe it is better not to complain.

Oh please don't get me started on this one. Our carriers favorite thing to do is when I put a nice hold on my mail, fill out the form, etc. he never redelivers the mail on the day I request. I always like to relax when I come home from disney by looking at the mail and paying the bills while the piles of laundry are starting to be washed. The counter person asked me if I would like to file a complaint, I said what difference would it make, he never gets the date right any way. So I am fixing him, wonder if he has noticed he has not gotten a nice christmas envelope from us for the last 2 years. Well they took our original mailman and changed his route, they only took our street away from him. I saw him when ds was at a job interview. I said, we miss you so much. I also asked if we could get him back at the post office. No such luck. At least he was nice, friendly and competent. I know its a boring job, but I wish they could get it right. Lately I get the same # houses mail, but from the next street. DS took the guy the mail and explained. He was moving and gave ds a tv for free. How nice. Hmm, never know what will happen.

do you mean deliver all the mail that you had "stopped" while you were gone?

yeah - this MAY be an option on the "hold mail" form, but it's never happened to us. DH always has to go down to the post office to collect it all. this has happened in 3 different towns that we've lived in...so we're used to it by now.

Be careful when you do complain about your letter carrier!! We had THE WORST mailman EVER in our old house. On a good day, we would get the mail at about 5 or 5:30. There were days that nobody on the block got any mail at all because he didn't deliver it. This guy was terrible. DH went to the post office and complained a few times, and after the final complaint was made, the mailman went up to DH and said, "I hear you have been complaining about me."!!!!!! DH said something like, "you're darn right". We were shocked that the postal service would reveal the identity of a "complainer" and that this guy had the nerve to confront DH about it. And, our mail service never got any better after the complaints.

Yes, you can complain.

Don't forget if it is a delivery issue, talk to the delivery supervisor.

IF you go only to the postmaster, that postmaster may or may not give the complaint to the delivery supervisor.

Basically the chain goes: (i may be off a bit, this is old info)

mail carrier
Route supervisor
Postmaster

Some places, (in my largish city), the postmaster is not at my particular post office. THey are in the larger main office, where I go to a small regular post office.

Because of this I had to talk to a delivery supervisor.

Also they do let people know who complains. I wound up complaining about a counter clerk (She claims she can't lift over 5 lbs.. hello, the PO requirement is 75 lbs! If you can't do your job, QUIT!) I had her refuse me three times, and each time the supervisor had to come and talk to her. Now whenever I am in there, with my multiple heavy ebay packages (pc's and laptops), she convienently closes her window.

Like others have said, call your local post office and complain to the postmaster or delivery supervisor.

I had to do this in our last city. Every magazine I got came in "already been read" condition....oh, and was 3-4 weeks late  After my complaint, all magazine type mail to my address had to logged in so if I didn't get something, they could find out when it came in the office...and then find why it hadn't been delivered. We were never told "why" it was late, but after I complained, it was never late again. My femal mail carrier did make a point to say "I see you've complained that I'm reading your magazines! I've never done that!" I told her, "Ummm...no. My complaint was that my magazines are always 3-4 weeks late and have obviously been read (missing inserts, spine bent back, etc.). I never accused anyone. I assumed it could be any number of people up and down the pipeline....I just want it stopped!"

Luckily, there was no retaliation, but that would be very easy for them to do. Good luck!
