Is there any way to buy a $20 Disney gift card?

My dh bought some paint at Home Depot that had a rebate in the form of a $20 Visa card. I'd like to use it to buy a Disney GC but I haven't been able to find any under $25. You can't spend more than $20 or the Visa rejects the purchase (like, you can't add $5 cash to bring it to $25). I can use that Visa for something else but I like saving Disney GCs for upcoming trips and figured you guys would know if there's a way to do it.

Have you asked a cashier to do a split payment of $20 for the gift card? If they can type in the exact amount it should go through.

At least one Office Max had variable Disney starting at $15, but it's been about a year since I was in one, don't know if it still does.

I can't answer your question exactly, but thank you for posting this! I have a $50 card I got from a rebate for my dog's medicine and I always screw those up and wind up losing some of the money. I didn't even think about doing a disney card with it!

I do know many stores online will let you split your payment among several sources. Like Target lets you do 2 I know. I have frequently used 1 gift card + my Red Card debit to pay for something. Sam's Club does also as well, they let me use 4 sam's gift cards and 1 walmart gift card PLUS the last few bucks thrown on my Discover card to order my disney cards yesterday. On both of those, you just manually put in exactly how much you want charged to each source.

I was at Lowe's the other day and they had variable Disney cards. I did not see what the minimum was though. You can always get an Amazon card and add it to your account. Amazon lets you use a gift card and a cc on a single purchase. I know it's not Disney but they have some cards that can be used towards a trip - Southwest, Uber etc.

If you can't find one of the above mentioned, I would use it to buy your groceries. Then use the $20 grocery cash you didn't use + $5 from whatever place in your budget you'd pay for vacations to buy the $25 Disney Gift Card.

Thanks for all the replies! We don't have Kroger, but when I looked it up online to see if I could buy one that way, it said what all of the other variable amount cards now say where I am (California), which is $25 minimum. I'll try the split payment but I was told that the purchase amount cannot exceed the value on the visa, but wouldn't the item coding say $25, even if they let me pay it down first with another form of payment?

I'll look at the places here that have the variable payment and see if any of them still have the lower variable denomination cards. If not, then I'll probably add it to my Starbucks or Amazon account. Thanks!

that the purchase amount cannot exceed the value on the visa
Correct. So if the cashier enters $20 as the payment (purchase amount), that's the only value being charged to the card and the payment processor doesn't see the other $5 if it's done that way.

The payment processor doesn't care that you're buying a higher priced item, it's more a technical limitation with how they process a transaction. Some Visa/MC gift cards will automatically authorize a lower amount when the purchase price exceeds the funds available and you don't have to care. Others, like it looks you might have, see the higher amount, know there isn't enough funds to cover it and just decline it.

When I have one of those I tell the cashier that I want to do split payment with $20 on this Visa card and the rest on ( whatever). They do their thing, $20 shows up on the payment screen, swipe and then voila.

For the split payments, they only care about how much is sent to charge to the card. (It's to prevent someone from charging $50 on a card that only has a balance of $20 for example, as they have no way to collect that money from you on a prepaid.) It's the same thing as when you use a gift card to cover part of a purchase. For example, here's what my recent disney card order looked like:

444345

Hopefully that makes sense! It's super easy, as long as you know exactly what to put for each card. I'll definitely be doing this with my pre-paid rebate visa as soon as I can order again. No more wasting money on those by not being able to charge the exact amount!! 😊

I was able to buy a $20 Disney gift card at Raleys recently. If you happen to be in an area with Raleys or Nob Hill foods might be worth a look. I mention it since you said you are California too.

Yes! Thanks! There's a Raley's about a mile from my house :)

Success! Thanks to all who responded.

I didn't get a chance yesterday to try the split payment but I'll remember it for another time.

Thanks to Laurawill's info, I found the variable amount gift cards ($15-100) at my local Raley's :)
