Is there any reason I can't check my carryon?

I am not planning to put on my suit right away anyway. I can't think of anything I can't live without for the first few hours. Is there a limit of how many bags you can check? Are bags checked inside or outside the terminal? We'll be on the 3 day Wonder, so there's no formal night to prepare for. Generally, what time is your luggage ready in your room? It just seems like it would be a lot easier to eat lunch without having to schlep a tote bag around.

They generally get your luggage to your cabin early to mid afternoon but there have been cases where they don't get there until evening or latere. If you truly don't need anything even before dinner, then free your hands!!! But if there's anything you might need (meds, makeup, etc.....I would carry it around). You can even carry a small carry-on with critical items only.

I wouldn't carry a suit-bag / garment bag around!!! How would you carry your drink?
:hyper:

We have always gotten aboard right after they drop the rope, and our luggage has been left outside our stateroom by mid afternoon each time. The only thing we carry aboard is a small bag with our camera and our bathing suits. I figure if we don't get our clothes in time for dinner, then I guess we were meant to wear what we have on! I don't want to lug around a big suitcase or garment bag with me to the welcome aboard lunch! Plus, your room may not be ready for awhile if you get onboard right away.

Like BuzzBoyMom said, how would we carry our drinks around!

There is a tent in the parking lot across the street that checks your bags. They have additional luggage tags for you if you want to use them for your carry on.

We had a room change on our cruise. We didn't know about that until we checked in at port. We were assured that our bags would get to our new room. Luckily we had late dinner seating as the bags didn't arrive until 7:30, after we had made several calls. So I would suggest putting clothes for the first evening in a carryon--just in case.

I agree with ADisneygirl. If our bags aren't in our room by the time we need to dress for dinner (early seating) we are meant to wear what we have on.

On our last cruise (11/01) we drove and dropped our luggage off right in front of the terminal. Has this changed???

We went January 04. I did see people parked in the lot on the terminal side of the road. We were dropped by friends, so we were directed for luggage check-in at the tent. Not sure if you park on the terminal side if you can go right in with your luggage.

About what time are the cabins ready for you to go in and drop off your carry-on bag(s) or be able to change for a swim?

Airlines allow you two bags PLUS a carry-on per person, so I can't imagine DCL doesn't allow the same.

nzdisneymom We have always been able to get into our stateroom by 1 p.m. We drop off our bags, get our suits and hit the pool right after the buffet.

Did I read this correctly?
They leave your bags in the hallway?
I thought they were left inside your
rooms!

Anyone heard of THEFT?
Good God! I think I'll plan to lug
EVERYTHING around!

Anyone heard of THEFT?

Don't put anything in your bags worth stealing. I doubt anyone is all that interested in your undies and jammies! Seriously, all cruise lines do this. I've been on 5 cruises and have never had a problem nor have I ever heard of a problem. I wouldn't worry about it.

Erin :D

...and don't stay in the Hyatt the night before, since you put your luggage outside your room in the morning before heading down to breakfast or checking in for the DCL bus.

Really it's all very efficient and no one is looking to make off with someone else's things. We were in the room when most the bags arrived ,unpacking the early delivered one.

Trust me, you REALLY don't want to be hauling your full complement of luggage with you while waiting for the clearance for your stateroom (or while waiting in line in the terminal either for that matter).

Think of it this way. On this entire board, has anyone posted about stolen luggage on-board? With everything that IS posted, you know that would be a major thread!

this is only if your transportation doesn't have the proper badging to pull up to the building. We can tag a few extra items if needed. As far as the parking, currently Magic guest get to park in the lot next to the building and Wonder is across the street. The parking has been swapped before, Port Authority is in charge of this

In addition to placing the bags outside your door when you get there, they also have you set them outside at night for pickup on the last night of the cruise.

It all works very well, if someone did want to try and steal something, they would be doing it in the hallway with crew and guests walking by, which is not very likely.

I was worried about our bags being left in the hallway too, but once we got there I realized it wasn't a problem at all. I was also worried about putting it out in the hallway for pick-up on the last evening, but that also wasn't a problem. The stewards were in the hallways, and I've never heard of anyone losing anything this way.

At the same time, I would recommend keeping your ID, your money, cameras, and jewlery on your person until you get into your room. Thieves wouldn't look twice at your clothes or your toiletries, but they would enjoy your valuables.

As for checking a tote bag, I'd think twice about that. They don't carry the bags individually -- they put all the bags for Deck X into a big canvas square crate on wheels, and when it's full they wheel it onboard and leave the luggage outside the rooms. Your tote bag could easily end up UNDER twenty large suitcases. If you plan to check your carry-on, I'd suggest going with something much more substantial than a tote bag -- perhaps a heavy-sided old-fashioned train case.

 drclaws: you said don't stay at the Hyatt?? Why not we are staying there?? Houzer:confused:

houzer~ I think Drclaws was being funny when he said don't stay at the Hyatt... you can tell who is going on a cruise in the morning... every room near us had luggage outside of their rooms! it's totally safe. There are tons of staff around.

Don't be alarmed that your luggage is left outside of your room "unattended"... there are thousands of people on the ship.. where are they going to go with "your" luggage???? We happened to be in our cabin when they started bringing the luggage around 3pm, our room host, Garry, knocked on our door when he had two of our pieces... I told him we were expecting two more pieces, they were there when we returned from the safety drill.

it's totally safe, no one is going to steal anything!!

No, no....we stayed at the Hyatt and highly recommend it!! What I was saying was, if you worry about putting your bags out unattended, then the Hyatt may not be the right place since that's how the baggage transfers are done.

Staying at the Hyatt is a great way to start the cruise!
