Is there any point?

Is there any point rushing to the airport to be at the front of the Q for TCD checkin at Gatwick as it seems to be the consensus that they allocate seats before departure date anyway. We clearly didnt want the £20 bribe of 'guaranteed seat booking' , so why get there early?

We leave a week on Sunday at 12 noon so is it probably better for the kids to get an extra hour in bed and then saunter into the airport about 2.5 hours before departure?

I would be interested to hear any experiences from Gatwick with TCD this year relating to checkin Q's, no. of desks open etc as I have to balance the pro's and con's group stresses includind several young children......

I have been wondering about this,

We fly in the afternoon too but from manchester, but we are staying in the airport and are flying sunshine first, so I dont know when we should be at check in,

anyone flown sunshine first? can you tell me what the seat lay out in sunshine first is

We went SF in 2003 and the layout was in twos, loads of space and we were right at the front of the plane.

Hi :wave2:

We flew from Manchester with TCD in '02. Spent nearly 2 hours queueing and were next to last to check in. When we boarded we were 3rd row in, so I think we coud have saved ourselves a couple of hours and just rolled up at the last minute! I'm sure they must have a seating plan before everyone checks in to make the whole process smoother.

I believe the airlines are obliged to try and sit family groups
together. So, it makes sense for them to have done the
jigsaw and have a good idea of where to put people prior
to check in. That doesn't mean however that at check in
they can't move things around to try and accomodate
the passengers requests.

At the end of the day, if it is a charter flight, it won't be
oversold so you will get on, as long as you check in before
the flight closes. The only advantage to joining the throng
to check in early would be the possibility of more choice.

:) Chris.
