Is there any penalty for not showing up for an ADR at Disney Restaurants?

For Example: We are driving to Disney Monday from Louisiana. I'm going with my DBF and our friends, another couple. I made an ADR for Whispering Canyon Cafe for 7:55 a while back incase we make it there earlier than expected, and my friend made one for us for 8:55 incase we don't. I don't want to cancel either one because I don't know what time we will be arriving exactly.

Is there any penalty for keeping both ADR's and not showing up for one of them?

this is not an adr booked with a credit card, so , no.
however, it is rude. just keep the later reservation, the one you KNOW you can make. and let someone ELSE book the earlier reservation.
you could do this with all reservations the whole trip! gee, we mightbe done with our Mk touring in time for a reservation at ohana's at 7pm, but, just in case we can't make it, I'll also book a reservation at 8 pm. it's just not very considerate.
keep the reservation you KNOW you can make, and cancel the other one. so someone else can enjoy it.

Canceling is just a phone call away. Even if it is not held by credit card you usually have to put in a phone # or you may have linked the ADR to your resort reservation. In an extreme case Disney may cross reference & cancel the second ADR thinking you won't show for it either. I stress that is probably an extreme reaction on their part. I would just call and cancel.

I have WDW dining in my cell phone...when we can't make a meal we call. Gives the restaurant a heads up and saves us from any guilt.

I agree with the PP who said you should cancel the earlier ADR. Although there is no penalty for missing your ADR, it is unfair to other people who would like the earlier time.

...for the other family who wanted to eat at that restaurant.

On our 2007 trip, I was sick the day of our flight down, and we knew there was no way we were going to the parks that night, or making our reservation. When we got to MCO, my wife checked us in on DME... I called WDW Dine to cancel the ADR.

I'd cancel the early one in plenty of time to allow someone else to use it. To me, common courtesy means means cancelling it NOW.

And if it were me, and we got there early, I'd just wander around the Lodge for a while. Heck, we purposely arrive early just to do that! There's a great little nook in the Lodge just above the entrance, it's peaceful, there's a fireplace, comfy couches. Nice place to rest my feet and just relax.

Also if you arrive early you can still check in before your ADR time. You might get in ealier than the 8:55 time and if not, you can enjoy the beauty of the resort until it is time.

The OP has the answer to their question, and also knows that many feel that it'd be more considerate to give up the earlier reservation now.
