New to this, Is there any type of meal plan that can be bought prior to going? Or do you have to pay as you go at the resort?

Thanks

No meal plans. You pay as you go.

On occasion, when you book it might include breakfast but I don't know how often they have that special.

Thank You!

A couple in the hot tub mentioned they booked through Disney and got free counter service everyday - I was wondering how, and I know sometimes I read that Costco offered the breakfast when you booked the package with them.

I know how you feel, even though your paying for it, having a dining plan takes away the "how much is it" on vacation!

Hope you have the best time!

I asked a CM at the food court about a meal plan and they said it was occasionally offered as a promotion.

My understanding is that most of the promos that include a food credit or a resort credit (which you can choose to use for food) are offered at the beginning of the promotion. For example, if there is a promo for 25-30% off your room that begins Jan 1st for new bookings until May, the promo will include the food or resort credit and the 25-30% off the room for bookings made before March 1st (this is hypothetical-not sure what will be the spring/summer offer will be, if anything) Sometimes the Dis will have it on the side section of announcements when it begins.

The best thing to do is called and book with the resort directly. Not only did I get 30% off, but free transportation to and from the airport, a free car rental for one day, and a free meal at the Ulu Cafe for every night we're going to be there (which unfortunately means due to our late flight on check in day, we can't take advantage of it that day.)

When are you going?

I see (and have booked) the discounted rooms with resort credit, but I have not seen an offer of free rental car, or free meals onsite in the several months that I have been watching the offers. Maybe they are not offered for the time of year we are looking at (end of May, beginning of June)

They do appear to change it up a little bit depending on the season. This section of the year they offered a free meal, and next section it looks like they do a resort credit, but they seem to always have some discount plus add on.

Actually the free car rental and transportation to and from the airport hadn't been advertised. I only found out about it when booking through the phone (for some reason I couldn't get the website to work) and while booking they just said, "So with this booking you get a free meal every day, one day car rental, and transportation to and from the airport." Just ask them what's the best deal they can offer you.

Also, word of warning, I don't know if it's different at the parks, but you do have to pay the full price for the hotel about thirty days before the trip. They take a deposit at the initial booking, but you have to pay in full at a later date.

Also, Aulani does also offer refillable mugs for $18.99, so that will cut down at least on drinks.
Yes, it does. There's four different designs. The red and blue ones that they show online. Then there's a green and a blue one with the different Disney characters on them (Mickey, Minnie, Donald, chip, Dale, stitch, Goofy, and a menehune.)
Also, weirdly in Ulu Cafe they have a sign detailing the "meal plan" which is our promo food deal. Maybe they're thinking of bringing it in full time?

After several days at Aulani, I do strongly suspect they're testing out a meal plan. That get a free meal offer is being referred to by signage and staff as "the meal plan" and they refer to meals as points. They have a specific outline of what you can order (one entree and one drink from a certain list) and it very much feels like they gave these free meal to give a further meal plan as a test run.

We are staying with the same promo/package. I have asked about the meal credit a few times, and the CMs say that you can use more than one a day - you just get an allotment of one per person per night. So, if you're staying for 5 nights, for example, you get 5 meal credits per person. If you don't use one on arrival, then you can use two another day. I asked this a few times, just to be sure, since we're not planning to eat at the resort on our rental car day.

I'm going to go out on a limb and state that I would really not want to eat every meal at Aulani. Maybe one a day. There are other places to go within walking distance that are much cheaper and may be better in some cases. So if they had a credit or voucher meal plan I would not get one. A resort credit which can be used on things other than meals, I'd love that.

I think if they had a Monkey Pos style restaurant in Aulani as a supplement to Ama Ama you totally could eat there everyday
