Is there any dining hope?

I will be traveling to the world this December with a Grand Gathering and my MIL is the pickest eater I have ever met - on top of being allergic to many things. My memory of eating at almost every table meal was elaborate meals - fancy sauces - stuff DH and I prefer. She doesn't do seafood and often at home will order very basic things from children's menu's say the Chicken Nuggets and fries...

I know with her allergies I will be informing them when I make all of our ADR's- I am just not sure where to begin looking. I am reviewing the menu's- will they scale down meals to be plain?

ARGH!!!

Good thing she is the best MIL around - just hate feeding her ..

I think most of the nicer restaurants will bring her anything she wants. Plain pasta, a grilled chicken breast, maybe even nuggets! :)

I wouldn't change yours and hubby's style to accomodate. I've read awesome stories on the boards about what the restaurants have done to make things special for everyone. No worries!

No worries. We just returned from taking my SIL - who is so allergic to corn and all of its byproducts (which is almost everything on earth) that she literally has not eaten out in over 5 years! She was accomodated at EVERY restaurant we went to. Her favorite was Chef Mickey - the Chef personally came to her with a book that listed every ingredient in every dish. At 50's Prime Time, they brought her in food from another restuarant.

Just have her allergy noted on each ADR and confirm it when you check in at each restaurant. The chef will come see her at every table service restaurant. I assure you that if the can accommodate my SIL - they can accommodate ANYONE!

I will admit - I am a very picky eater! To top that off, my boyfriend has food allergies. During our last 6 Disney vacations we've never had any trouble eating at WDW (and we've eaten at dozens of restaurants). I am able to find something I'll eat at even the fanciest restaurants (although I do sometimes resort to plain pasta or the children's menu). As for my boyfriend's allergies, we simply mention it while making our dining reservations and then again when checking in. A chef usually comes to our table and explains what he can/cannot eat. Occasionally, they may have to specially make his meal but they are always pleasant and accommodating.

Neither problem has affected our dining experience. You will be fine!

Wow - thanks for the encouragement

I wasn't worried about the allergies as much as I was worried about her pickiness.. I would take it from these replies that since she will be getting "off menu" type accommodations and/or possibly kid type meals - we would be better suited paying OOP opposed to the DDP?

I am debating whether to buy an AP for the TIW card..

Thanks

My MIL is also a PITA eater (pain in the _ss). I would just make ressies wherever you would like, there will always be something the kitchen can make plain for her. Are you paying her way, or is she paying for herself? Guess that would be the deciding factor in deciding on the DDP or not, at least for me. I wouldn't want to waste DDP on a plain scoop of rice and a plain chicken breast for every dinner. Glad you have a nice MIL, wish mine was! :-)

I would be happy if she ate rice...lol

Thanks

I just wanted to say most any of the TS restaraunts will tone down most any menu item, to remove any exotic spices or sauces. I've even asked for the side dish (veggie) from another menu item to replace the veggie that was listed with my entree & been accomodated, no problem.

Also since she is the party member with food allergies, the chef will come by your table to discuss her meal choices before you order, so there should be no problem accomodating her "pickiness." Just remember to remind the host/hostess when you check in that you do have someone w/ food allergies.
