Is there a way to save on "short week" car rentals?

I'm trying to convince our grown kids to make a car rental reservation for the 5 days they will be staying with us in Kissimmee. The problem is the rental companies consider 5 days as a week and charge the weekly rate. They think they can save by only renting for 3 days after we get there and they decide what side trips to take (no planning what so ever!).

Is there a way around the short week problem and only pay for the 5 days? (Fri - Wed)

Should 4 days (Fri - Tues or Sat - Wed) be that much better? Perhaps an extended weekend rate?

I find that the weekly rate is usually better than the 5 day rate. I rent for 9 days and pay less for the week than the extra 4 days. This is with National.
Look for a code for a weekly rate or a discount coupon.

Rental agencies have a high daily rate. It caters to business renters who are forced to pay high rate.

Most people have the opposite question. How to get the weekly rate for a rental period of 4 or 5 days.

Assume the daily rate is $50 and the weekly rate is $150. A customer prefers to pay the weekly rate.

I'm doing the extended weekend rate using National at the Car Care Center. I used 5125601 and nf4861ADM and am paying $122.21 for a 4 day rental, ($30.55 per day), picking up on Wed at 4:30PM and dropping off on Sunday at 4:30PM, intermediate size.
If I wanted to rent 5 days and pick up at MCO, I used 5125601 and ND1881JDK and it came to $166.98 for 5 days ($33.40), returning to CCC.

I can usually do better on short (less than 1 week rentals) like you need by using Priceline (or Hotwire but I can usually get a better rate via Priceline). With either of those you are paying by the day only so it seems to be better for 3 to 5 day rentals.
