universal studios? A friend wants to go but wants to bl close to the resort but the prices at their hotels are insane!!

The non-Palms Marriotts in II, and the HGVCs in RCI. Vistana Villages is in both, but more common in II.

One of the closest is OIRC, but it's an older property, and really just a room to crash in.

We booked a unit for October through II at Westgate Lakes. It's just down the road from Universal. We got a 3br, sleeps 12.

Orlando's Sunshine Resort I & II, Orlando International Resort Club & WestGate Palace are all off of the northen part of International Drive.

WestGate Leisure, Crowne Plaza, Kingstown Reef, Hilton Grand, Cypress Harbor & The Fountians are on or just off the mid part of International Drive.

West Gate Lakes, as someone already mentioned is on Turkey Lake road & that is just down the road basically from Universal and further south from there off Palm Parkway (another very easy commute) are Cypress Point, WestGate Blue Tree & Celeberty Resort.

I know there are many others, but this is all I can think of now.. to be honest, your best bet would be the upper portion of I-drive or anything on Turkey Lake/Palm Parkway. They are the easiest commutes. When you start with mid I-Drive, while it isn't too far, traffic sometimes can back up.
