you can waitlist for a 1 bedroom, but you can't waitlist for a 1 bedroom that is handicap accessible?

I know I shouldn't have waited this long, but with schedules sometimes it's hard to make plans.

I did receive confirmation for SSR for a 1 bedroom, but no HC accessible room. I am in a wheelchair and a HC room would be to my best interest, but for now I guess I will take the non HC room.

Guess I will call everyday to see if they have one. My dates are Dec. 10-16.

I would call back on Monday, and make it very clear to MS that you are in a wheelchair and ask them to put you in touch with the folks who handle special needs (I don't think you can call them directly). That office can actually block a H/A room for you. Since you already have a ressie, that should be easy to do, but I think you just haven't been talking to the right folks.

When you go through MS, all you're really doing is making a request. They try to fill medical necessity requests whenever possible, but there are no guarantees unless you go through the special needs office. As a request, there is no way they can tell whether there will be a H/A room available or not...therefore, you can't waitlist for it.

For HA rooms when you call you will be given an actual "room". (They could tell you the number, but doubt they would ahead of time) When we booked a HA room (we had a party member in a wheelchair), it was confirmed by Member Services when I called as a lock-off. They will only book HA confirmed until they run out of HA rooms. If they have no HA rooms, sounds like they will book a regular room and have the requests added as medical, however this will not guarantee a HA room. Also sounds like they have no provision for a waitlist (which was your original complaint). That is unfortunate. I would call back once a week or so until you can hopefully get a guaranteed HA room. Also ask each time you are denied if there is any way you can waitlist for a guaranteed HA room.

(We enjoyed our stay in the HA room and would not hesitate to stay there if we were assigned one again. The biggest difference is the roll-in shower instead of the enclosure. Not a big enough difference to have me complaining.)

Edit to add: Just saw your time frame from your post (Dec). Yes, I would keep calling every day to see if you can get a HA room. Always ask too if there are HA rooms available at -any- DVC resort, as it would be much more convenient for you to have HA than to make due with non-HA.

If you told them when you made your reservation that you needed a wheelchair accessible room, MS should have called Special Reservations (the place the deals with special needs) to see if any were available. (Previous to this Spring, MS handled regular and special needs reservation for stays on points).
I'm guessing that they did check and there were none available. From what I understand, they don't maintain a wait list for those rooms. For most people who request one, if there is no wheelchair accessible room available at that resort, they need to look at another resort and being on a waiting list would not work. Also, I don't think many people cancel with a confirmed handicapped room. So, I don't think they actually have a waiting list. Calling frequently and checking if one does become available at any resort, as was already mentioned, is probably your best bet.
