Before I consider a DVC purchase, I would like to know the point values for other Disney resorts ( Yacht Club, Carribean Beach, etc...).

Is there a separate calculator for those points?

Any help is appreciated

Thanks

I don't have access to those charts...I'm sure someone will post a link to some source.

Just wanted to say a couple of things about the non-DVC resorts through DVC points:

- in general, this is a very expensive way to use DVC points. Often, it is less expensive to look for codes or use AP rates to get regular resort room discounts.

- non-DVC resorts point schedules change every year, and often go up. So while 180 points will always buy you the same accommodations and days for DVC resorts, they will not always buy the same rooms in the resorts.

- DVC points cannot be used for resorts that have a "DVC partner resort". So WL, BC, BWI and soon (presumably) AKL are not able to be reserved using DVC points.

Most will tell you that buying DVC to stay at non-DVC resorts regularly is not a good idea.

Good luck in your information search. :)

Here are a few:
Grand Floridian...Anywhere from 40 to 178 points a NIGHT! For what it costs in points one night during holiday season, you could stay a week in a studio at OKW.

Poly is from 36-149 an night, and Yacht club is from 35-142 a night.

The reason these are so high is that they are out of system exchanges for the DVC/DVD timeshare system. They are similar to exchanging in the concierge collection. These values have to be renegotiated annuall or every other year, and will always increase, because the cost of paying for them increases when staying through CRO too.

I always feel like they are a step down from staying in a DVC resort anyway. With a DVC resort, you can have a full apartment as opposed to a single room. It's just so much more comfortable.

Currently, the moderates have around the same point value per night as the studios at the Villas. You can not rent value resorts with points.

Is there a link so we can see more than the ones mentioned here? And WOW, that is such a high amount of points needed!

I know that this is off topic a little, but one can calculate an equivalent cost per point and multiply that by the number of points needed to stay at one of the OTHER WDW resorts, example Grand Floridian.

Examining the cheapest time of year, I conclude that using points is more cost effective than making the reservation directly except on the weekends. On the weekends, it is more cost effective to use cash.

However, this does not consider incentives and the like given to AP holders. Nor does it consider other incentives such as time of year incentives, that is, reducing cost during a slow time of year.

The deluxes are all in the same range as GF. Maybe a bit lower, but they're still several times higher than it would be for a studio at a DVC resort. The moderates range from 16 - 45 points a night, depending on the season. That's slightly more than a studio at a DVC resort. And a moderate is a definite step down from a DVC resort, IMO. I'd never use my points at a mod.

Another important thing to remember about point use at non-DVC resorts... the point requirements are somewhat fixed at a DVC resort, for the life of the contract. If they raise the points for one room category, or season, they have to lower the points for some other room type or season. The total number of points for the resort has to stay the same.

There's NO such restriction on the point requirements for the non-DVC resorts. They're renegotiated every year, and they can and do go up. There's nothing to stop them from doubling or tripling the points required for a stay at a non-DVC resort. That room at CBR that costs 16 points could cost 50 points in a few years.

A DVC membership is intended for use at DVC resorts. I consider the ability to stay outside of the DVC resorts to be a perk; OK to use once in awhile, but certainly not a reason for buying in.

If you really feel that you'd be unhappy staying at a DVC resort, or that you'd prefer staying at YC or CBR most of the time, then DVC isn't a good fit for you.

Thanks for the info. It is very useful. We are considering renting points this year just to try out the DVC. The rental rates are very reasonable compared to other rates (even AP rates). I guess I just assumed the point costs for non-DVC resorts would be similar to DVC. If we do buy, we would definitely use the DVC resorts. We just have grown to love some of the other resort themes (Contemp, CBR, Poly, YC, PORS).

Thanks again.

tagrel.com has a very good point calculator for all DVC resorts.

Just thought I would add my 2 cents here. Not that they may even be worth that much:rotfl2:. My DW and I just went down Dec 14th thru the 19th.

We had always wanted to try Poly Concierge so that is what we did. We used 389 points for 5 nights!!! Looking back I would say it was an incredibly unwise use of our points. While we loved the resort we now realize that it so is not worth it. We could have had so many more weeks down there or enjoyed our 2 bedroom villa much more:confused3

We will now only be using our points at DVC resorts. We own at VWL, BCV, and AKV so we have plenty of choices. We will be using our points much more wisely in the future.:rolleyes1
