Is there a pharmacy that delivers?

Just realized that DD9's ADHD meds will need a refill while we're at WDW. The Dr. is going to give me a Rx dated for when we are there, but is there a pharmacy that will pick up the script & deliver the meds? or will I have to get a taxi & go to Walgreen's or something? Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

We are staying at POR (if that matters)

Take the script to your home pharmacy and ask them to call your insurance now. Explain that you are going on vacation, and you need it filled early. Most insurances will allow it at least once a year.

I had to do this same thing for my script and they allowed for it. You just need to make the call. I actually had to call the insurance comp. myself and they made the allowance to the pharmacy when it was refilled, I think they called them directly. good luck.

We have had prescriptions faxed from the resort and then delivered to us - BUT they don't accept any insurance plans. We were in a pinch and it was also convenient.

You have to be careful. These are controlled substances and most places will not fill out an out of state script. Your best bet would to do what the PP have said to do.

I used to be a pharmacy tech, and depending on the laws in Florida, they may not accept an out-of-state script. I live in Illinois, and the laws here forbid a pharmacy to fill a Class II (which is what most ADHD meds are classified under) script from out of state.

Best advice is from PPs - call your insurance plan and ask for a vacation override a day or two before you leave (the closer to your vacation - and hence the closer to the date of your refill - the better). Most will do this with no problem...

That was kind of what I was thinking.

The other thing is there are some things that can't be delivered, so even if the FL pharmacy would agree to fill it you might still have to go get it. We were traveling with a friend who was on an injectable med and he ran out of syringes. They wouldn't deliver - he had to go in person to get more.

we just got back Saturday and my dd was showing all the signs of an ear infection. We drove to the walkin place, but they had a huge wait, so I called my home doctor and had him call in a prescription for her to the drugstore right there - TURNER DRUG on Apopka Vineland Rd.

I was already there so I waited for the prescription but they were taking calls te whole time I was there, and talking about delivery to hotel's front desks, so I am pretty sure they deliver just dont know the specifics.

One downfall, they do NOT file with insurance, so we had to pay upfront and then I will file myself from home.

HTH.

well looks like they will take out of state scripts...and called in one's to boot which is so nice. That is good to know, we used turner drug our last tripwhen my dd had an injury and we had to pick up some meds there.

OP's rx can't be phoned in...hard copy in person only. FYI: you may find that your insurance won't allow a vacation override on a CII narcotic...our's wouldn't so I had to pay out of pocket to fill it early and send in the receipt for resimubursement. They reimubursed me which made NO sense to me; what is the difference between an early refill w/ an override and early refill I paid for and was later reimbursed for? :confused3
Gotta love the insurance game!

My Rx isn't a REFILL. According to dd's Dr., she can only write a 30-day prescription at a time. She wrote me one for this month and will write me another one for 6/5/08 (the actual piece of paper prescription, not a refill on her current one) even though it's the same med. Does this change anything?

I called Walgreen's today and they said I shouldn't have any problem filling the Rx, but I didn't tell them exactly what it was. since we are in IL, maybe they won't fill it?

I've also got a call in to the insurance company to find out what can be done. At this point, it looks like we'll be taking a taxi to Walgreens or WalMart to get it filled (if possible by law).

If your insurance won't allow a vacation override on CII meds, I would call an Orlando pharmacy and make sure that they will fill an out of state script. Worst case scenario, you may have to pay out of pocket at your local pharmacy and try to submit the claim for reimbursement...

Definately call Walgreens IN FLORIDA back and tell them the name of the medication. Many states have laws forbidding the filling of controlled substances (particularly CII medications) unless the prescriber is licensed and practices in that state.

I don't think some here realize what kind of meds these are. My son has been on them for a long time and here are the rules:

They can't be called in. There are NO REFILLS which means you have to have a new script each month. These are controlled substances and for the most part they cannot be filled out of state.

I would call the place where you want to get it filled and tell them exactly what it is and see what they say.

We can all speculate, but because state laws vary you may get a different answer from the one I have given. I would just hate for you to go by wha the store in your town says and then when you need it you can't get it.

Yes!

Take care of it now. You don't want to get there and then not be able to fill the script. It is a controlled substance,so no call ins and more than likely they wouldn't fill it. My ds is on ADD meds and we just called insurance and they did a one time override.

Could you drop off the script at your local Walgreens before you leave but ask them to transfer it to the one in FL as you will be picking it up there? That might get around the whole controlled substance script from another state. I don't know if that is possible but it might be worth asking.

that won't work with controlled meds.

i'm on a couple as is ds with his adhd meds and you have to retrieve, in person, with i.d. the meds from the pharmacy you submitted it to.

also-some states, even if you have existing re-fills on a script with a pharmacy that exists in that state, on some types of meds (not the level that adhd are but some types of sleeping, anxiety and pain pills) will not permit refills to out of state visitors (this was prominantly posted in the pharmacies in hawaii with a list of the drugs when we visite a couple of years ago).

op-you might be able to swing what we've done in the past re. this-but check with your pharmacy first (we've used the same one forever so they've been very accommodating). we get the doc to write the script, and since the pharmacy knows that our insurance co. can be a p.i.t.a. about filling before the one month date-the pharmacy goes ahead and sets aside the drugs, giving us the number of pills (well, now patches since ds is on daytrana) but does not run the script until the day they know the insurance company will permit it. the other thing we've done is ask the doctor to write out 2 scripts-one for a supply to cover us when we're gone, and a second for the regular amount. then we've paid out of pocket for the travel supply and end up just pushing out the next refill on the months supply. i plan in june to ask ds's ped to write a script for a 10 day in addition to his regular 30 because ds will be going to summer camp for a week-we'll pay out of pocket for it so he has the ones he'll need while he's gone.

I talked to my insurance company and explained the date of the Rx, the date we are leaving and what the medication is. They told me to go to the pharmacy 5 days before we leave & have the pharmacy call a special 800# and ask for a vacation override & there won't be any problems.

Let's hope so.

I've heard this before too. Often the pharmacy will do this, esp if the quantity is small - like less than a week's worth.

To answer your orginal question, I was told by someone at WDW that they do have a pharmacy that will deliver prescriptions to the resorts.

Worst case scenario - you might have to pay for the meds oop, but I think if you have a script, the pharmacy will refill the meds a few days early. You may be able to have the doctor write a script for just the number of pills you need.
