Is there a good thread that explains "walking"?

Hi all,
trying to get my head around the concept of walking a reservation. Is there a good sticky or thread that explains how to do it and when it is most successful?

Looking to book BWV for F&W, 1 bedroom. My home resort is BLT and I have a current ressie and hope to grab a 1bd villa at BWV at 7 months out.

You will need more that walking, BWV at F&W is almost impossible to get at 7 mo. Not to worry, BLT is just a quick monorail to monorail ride to EPCOT.

The problem with walking at seven months is that if any room you want is already completely booked (or booked enough that it gets walked into before your call), the whole thing falls apart. That isn't an unlikely scenario over F&W for BW (although with a one bedroom, you have a better shot).

While not an explanation about walking, this post is an excellent reference when contemplating a hard-to-get ressie at 7 months or less:

And specific to your situation:
BWV

During the low to moderate season: Pool/garden view studios and 2BRs have disappeared for July 3 and 4 at 7 months out from June 30, but otherwise pool/garden view, all room sizes, has been open at 7 months out. The BWV GV is usually missing three or more days a week except there are some times when it is open for 6 or 7 in a row, particularly during the quite low demand times. The standard and boardwalk view studios and 2BRs are usually missing two to four days a week but sometimes you may find a week, such as during the quite low demand times and in August. The standard and boardwalk view 1BRs have been open at 7 months out the entire time except one day in a standard 1BR filled before 7 months out for the Princess half marathon weekend in 2017 and another for the Star Wars Dark Side race weekend.

High Demand Quarter: Everything except 1BRs was usually missing 5 to 7 nights a week at 7 months out. The pool/garden view studios (and 2BRs) had one period, Nov 26-29 when they were open for four nights in a row but otherwise you could usually find at most only two nights in a row at times.
The standard and boardwalk view 1BRs were usually gone three to four nights a week. The pool/garden view 1BR was at times missing only one or two nights in a week but usually that night blocked you from getting more than two nights in a row at 7 months out although in that mid Nov to Thanksgiving week and Dec 15-22 period, you could have gotten four nights in a row in 2016.
Those "holes" at 7 months, where even just a single night is missing during each week during the high demand quarter (late Sept. - early Jan), is what would prevent you from being able to walk a reservation at BWV for F&W.

True, but with the monorail schedules consistantly Inconsistant, and the long walk from the main gate to the WS, I'd prefer to be just right near IG if possible.

Best shot to get what you want is to:
  1. Plan on a Pool/Garden 1 bedroom,
  2. Have available points to use, (If you have to cancel a back up reservation before you can book BWV, you could lose out to someone who has the points available right at window opening).
  3. Be on line ready to push the button to book at 8 AM Eastern on the day your window opens and
  4. Be willing to use the waitlist if you weren't one of the lucky ones.
Keep an eye on availability as the booking window for your desired stay approached. If it's clear (no unavailable nights prior to your fist night), go ahead and give walking a try. You'll be ahead of any other 7 month hopefuls, but a BWV owner could still book and end your walk if he/she takes the last available unit for any night leading up to your desired check-in day.

Good luck!

7 months at BWV and BCV during F&W comes with free unicorn rides. LOL

But in all seriousness, you can try walking at 7 months but take it from experience that you need to have another Home resort Secured because a PP mentioned all it takes is 1 owner that book day a day that you cant and you will be shut out.

to walk at 7 months you will need to start as early as 7 days prior to reservation check in i.e. your first reservation will have a check out date that will eventually be your check in date

every day you need to call to modify the reservation by taking off one day in the front of the reservation and adding it to the end of the reservation

some people on here think this is unfair practices or you should be charged to do so but at 7 months its a crap shoot
