Is there a Disboards / Podcast / Bob Varley "Cinderella's slipper" in the parks?

Hi all,

I've heard that fans of "other" disney boards touch cinderella's slipper on the mural in the castle at Magic Kingdom as a way to connect with everyone else, knowing that other members have been at that same spot.

Just wondering, is there a particular place in WDW where Disers have agreed to go and touch everytime they're there? It would be cool to just know that all of us have been and touched one particular spot in the parks as kind of a connection, you know?

If not, any ideas for spots? Specifically, I was thinking about places that Bob Varley may have touched, that way, we could be connected in some way to him as well.

I think it's the dole whip station. Im not sure if it's official but I know that I will buy one for somebody in Bob's honor when we go in October.

The Dole Whip stand is the place to go.

This was one of Bob's favoriye things. He even made faux dole whips at home.

Podcast listeners have been known to buy one for themselves and one for the stranger behind them, saying only "this is from Bob".

It would be hard to find a place in any of the parks that didnt have a Bob story or connection.

One of the Bob stories I havent told ...or havent told alot happened at Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party.

Bob often rode an ECV due to ankle injury. This particular night Diana (his wife) was also on an ECV due to a knee injury.

We were walking from ToonTown to Tomorrowland on the underused walkway that runs along the train tracks.

Bob had gone ahead to "scope things out" as he loved nothing more than a fact finding mission and on his way back, pulled up next to Diana and gave her a kiss.

We all busted on him and Bob loved nothing more than getting us to do just that.

When we were all done teasing him, he turned to Diana and said...."I just felt like I needed a kiss from my honey."

This led to more teasing and Bob just drove away laughing.

Not a day goes by when something doesnt jump out and make me think of Bob.

I truly cant believe it's almost a year.

Kevin, I just got major goosebumps from reading your story. That's so wonderful, thanks for sharing:goodvibes

I really can't believe it has been nearly a year either. I had my first Dole Whip in honor of Bob just a few weeks ago and I definitely felt connected to him, though unfortunately I never got to meet him in person.

thats a great story kevin.

When i was on my CP in the fall. I rode ellens universe of energy. The whole time i thought of bob and i was thinking... with all these dinosaurs screaming who could nap in here???

And of course everytime i see a guy in an ecv with lights on it i think of him. I was so looking forward to seeing him when i went to florida. Once i was wandering around EPCOT and i saw a guy in an ecv with light. i thought "BOB!" but then when i realized it couldnt have been i burst out in tears right there in the middle of the park. I was the wierd girl by herself in the park crying over a man she never met, but felt was her uncle.:sad1:

But back to the question. This isnt site wide, but ALOT of people rub humphreys nose in WL. My first time there i ran to him and rubbed his nose and took a picture!

That's a very nice story Kevin. Thanks for sharing it.

“Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion.”
This is what happens when I think of Bob - when I am particularly sad and missing Bob, I listen to some old podcasts. I think Bob would love that we all remember him so fondly and are able to keep his memory alive.

Thanks for Sharing that story Kevin. I have been thinking alot about Dianer over the last few weeks and wondeing how she and Matt are holding up. I know how hard the first year is as we just remembered my FIL who passed away a little over a year ago. Please let them know we are thinking of them and would love to see them on the boards again if they feel up to it.

Is Dianer going on the cruise?

We've had a few more Bob reminders lately. He must be in heaven talking about us!:goodvibes

Whenever I hear someone say something like "It's too bad adults can't see things through the eyes of a child", I smile and think of Bob. He never lost that ability. That is one of the reasons I enjoyed listening to him on the Podcast.

I ran into Bob once. I was at EPCOT for EPCOT's 25th anniversary and saw Bob set up in his lighted ecv ready to film Illuminations. It was a rainy, terrible evening and people were soaked to the bone. There was talk that Illuminations would be canceled but Bob was there with a plastic tarp over his ecv and his mounted camera waiting in the rain ready to capture the special 25th anniversary Illuminations show. People must have thought he was crazy but it cleared up just in time for Illuminations and the video he captured of Illuminations was great. I remember hearing Bob talk on the Podcast the following week about the special video spot he found in EPCOT and it made me smile.

Thanks for all of the great memories, Bob. It is hard to believe you've been gone for a year.

This discribes how I feel perfectly.
Kevin, thanks for sharing the story. Reading it, I did the above; smiled and had tears in my eyes at the same time.

Ah, Bob, you left a wonderful legacy of caring and sharing.

Kevin, it has been almost four years since I lost my mom, and I still have that same feeling. Every once and awhile something weird happens and I know she is there......something she and I would have laughed at. Just today, I helped an old man who was in trouble a t a gas station. After, he introduced himself to me and it turns out he used to be the chief of the board of selectmen in the town I work in. He knew my name and complimented my work. I knew my grandmother (who we lost last week) had sent him.

I imagine that happens to you as well. The topless guy at The Candlelight Processional comes to mind....

I take solace in the fact that it happened quickly as you never had to know "this is the last......." or this will be the last time.......

I stood in the office today of the staff member we lost this week. Our mourning began for her at diagnosis last August....every time I saw her I wondered if this would be the last time, knowing once I would be right....

I am not sure I will ever really believe the amount of time that has gone by.....

He was a great man with a great heart. He lived his last years doing what he loved the most....I hope I am that lucky as well.

Kristin

Ok, this just made me a crying pile of mush, especially the part about him kissing Diana. Thanks so much for sharing that.

It is too bad that more of us can't see things that way. :grouphug:

Last year I left for WDW just a couple of days after Bob passed away. As many of y'all have already mentioned, it was really surprising how a man I never met in person had such an impact on my life and brought so many smiles to my face. I remembered from the podcast how much Bob enjoyed Illuminations, and when I watched it on my trip right after his passing, tears just streamed down my face. It was so sad, but it did make me happy to know that he spent his time doing what he loved and making the rest of us so happy at the same time--that is a blessing indeed!

I am planning have a dole whip in the summer :thumbsup2

Another heart-wrenching moment on the DIS, but one that brings a smile to my face. :)

THANK YOU Kevin for sharing that with us. I like what a pp said about Bob never loosing the ability to see things with childrens eyes. That is why he kept me glued to the podcast. He brought those little things others tend to miss. I am proud to be going to the dolewhip meet for him on 4/28. I never met him but also felt very connected. I spend more time with my online friends than I do with IRL friends so it is no wonder we all feel so close to one another.
