Is there a difference in room comfort quality between Mods vs. Deluxes?

We just returned from a split stay with a moderate resort (CBR) and a deluxe (AKL).

Aside from decor, theming, views, and services, is there a difference in actual room quality? Are the mattresses really better quality at deluxe resorts or do they use the same ones? Are the showers better quality at deluxes?

I say yes! The mattress seemed way more comfy at AKL and water pressure much better in the shower. DBF didn't notice a difference and says I might just think that because I caught caught up in the more upscale decor.

Anyone have any thoughts or insight?:confused3

I thought the beds were queen in the deluxes as opposed to double beds in the mods?:confused3 I can't wait to check out the queen bed in the family suite. The double beds are for the birds! LOL

We had a king sized bed at CBR (I believe they had queen sized available as well). We had queen sized bed at AKL (no king-sized available at the time)

The showers seemed to be the same at POFQ as they were at the AKL and Poly. What wasn't the same was the mattresses. The mattresses at POFQ were horrible! :scared1: Hard as a brick. My back was aching during the entire trip and I got the lousiest sleep of my life. Some people say they're so tired out from the parks that the mattresses don't matter but for me they do. I tossed and turned all night and practically felt every spring.

The mattresses at the AKL and the Poly are soooo comfortable. :cloud9: I didn't even realize how cranky I wasn't the following morning after sleeping on their mattresses. :thumbsup2

I say definitely yes! We loved our room at AKL. It was extremely comfortable. We spent a lot more time at the resort as a result. The beautiful decor and savannah view didn't hurt either, but the amenities were far superior to those found at the values or mods in our experience. Even the towels were fluffier!

We just stayed at Pop last month and let me tell you - what a rude awakening after staying deluxe! The beds were awful, and the shower pressure was terrible, too.

I never really understood deluxe snobs, but after staying at AKL, I've become one too! We're planning 10 days at the Poly next Spring. It may take us a year to save up, but it's so worth it!

The rooms are significantly bigger at many of the deluxe resorts. WL and AKL rooms are only slightly larger than the rooms at the moderates.

From personal experience, the rooms at the Contemporary are huge, and sleep 5 instead of 4. I'm pretty sure the rooms at GF and POLY are similar in size to CR.

Rooms at moderates have double sized beds, but there are a few rooms that sleep two persons and have a king sized bed. Rooms at deluxes have two queen beds and often a day bed.

As far as room "ammenities" I didn't notice a Huge difference between
mod and deluxe....EXCEPT....for the queen beds in deluxe.

Room decor in mod feels way more upscale than the values. In fact I thought the decor in POFQ room was nicer than Yacht club...

Pop feels "bare bones" comparatively.....

If the mods had a balcony and a queen beds.....I think a lot of deluxers....
would be very happy at the mods.

Kerri,

Without knowing first hand, I would say your write up was a fair and accurate description. Thanks for it, I was looking into the different resorts and was wondering if I would be disappointed after staying at WL?!? We are thinking of trying POR. Any comments?

We have only been to Wilderness Lodge in 2005. We loved the queen size beds, the comfortable mattresses and I am so picky about pillows, but they were awesome! I believe I was told that a lot of the resorts were going to the same mattresses and pillows.(I don't know about the budgets, but I thought POR said there's were all getting converted to the same as WL-anyone know?)

Well I was at the Contemporary when I was in 5th grade, so I don't remember the bed situation! What I remember is the awesome monorail running through our resort!!

There is some difference between the POR and the WL - -have stayed at both -- but I don't think you will be disappointed in the POR. The beds are the big deal for us ... we just can't do the double beds anymore ...need the queens or a queen and bunkbeds.

We also like the interior corridors, room service ... which moderates don't have. We also like the separate bathroom area from the actual room and the actual closets. The rooms at WL are just a tad bigger than the POR but not tons.

What about at ASMo, are they THAT bad? Or should I invest in an egg crate for my visit there?

After staying at WL 2x....we tried POFQ....I was surprised I really did
like POFQ....The room size is very similiar....you probably won't even
notice...
I tried POFQ because I wanted a small resort....I was afraid my room would
be in the boons.

If you don't mind the double beds and no balcony.....I think you will
be very comfortable at a moderate.

Why don't you try a split stay.....this way if you don't love POR....
you won't be there the whole week.....
Happy Planning

So are the beds and pillows the same quality as the WL with the exception of dbl instead of queen? Or was the beds comfortable? What about the ambiance?

Ambiance.....nothing beats WL....IMO....
POR has a very nice atmosphere though....If you can deal with the
double beds.....I think you will like POR.

How many are in your party....I wound up getting a cot by night 2 so
I can spread out more......I'm spoiled with a king at home.

I prefer a queen, but I think we can handle a double bed as long as it is comfortable and doesn't roll to the middle!

There will be just my husband and I.

Does anyone else agree - about the mattresses at POFQ -- hard as a brick? We will be staying there in a couple of months, and am worried that since we have stayed at deluxes, staying at a mod will be disappointing.

FQ and POR got all new pillow top mattresses in 2005 :) We found them just as comfy AKL, but the 'real' deluxes (Poly,GF,CR) have even more comfy beds - especially GF. Those beds were incredible.

Hope that did not sound wrong... Just that WL aad AKL seem like lite deluxe since the rooms are not too much larger than POR/FQ and CSR. CBR, the first moderate resort, rooms are 340 sq ft, and AKL/WL std rooms are 344. :) Amenities are not quite as good. Still, we loved AKL with our Savannah view!

We've stayed at every resort except for WL and AllStars.

Hope you find the beds just fine! :)

You guys must really like each other:lmao:
we would be happy to have our own bed:rolleyes1

That is great to hear -- about the FQ -- but I have to disagree, just a little, with that the AKL is a "lite deluxe." We absolutely LOVED AKL. :lovestruc It was our first deluxe but still -- it was so comfortable and wonderful. We recently stayed at Beach Club and did not feel the same. We were quite a bit disappointed and would consider that a "lite deluxe" if it weren't for the outstanding pool! We would stay again just for the pool, but the room was not very comfortable -- especially the daybed, which we definitely needed. Our 14-yr-old daughter was too tall for that bed (and she was only 5'2"). It is simply a wooden bench with a styrofoam cushion. Not very comfortable at all. Anyway, I am glad to hear about the FQ being comfy.
