My family and I are having to sell our DVC contract to pay down some debts. It's not a life or death thing, but it just makes more financial sense.

So, I was wondering if there were any families out there that sold their DVC at one point only to buy back in at a later date? :confused3

I'd like to hold out some hope for future DVC stays :)

Sorry. We considered selling ours early this year, but decided we could make it work. But it was agonizing even thinking about it, so I'm sure deciding to do it is so much worse!

Rent points for some future trips, and maybe you'll be back in the fold sooner rather than later!

It's tough sometimes doing what needs to be done, but who knows what resale lurks around the corner when things get better for you!

Good luck to you!

very sorry and good luck with the debt. Being debt free is such a relief.

Making good financial decisions is never without serious thought, and can come with disappointment and heartache: but making the right decision will make for a happier future, one that will more often lead to the return to ones desires than away from them.

Keep hold of the dream. We look to welcome you home again.

:sad1:

I felt your pain. A few years ago we had to sell a contract due to a tax dispute with the US Government. Needed the $.

I am in the exact same boat. I have had the papers sitting on my desk now for a week and just haven't been able to make myself sign them yet, I feel your pain. I have some other reasons for selling too but the primary reason is that it just makes the most financial sense to do so at this time. It is not a life or death thing with us either, but it will help us get our finances more stable. It is really our only extravagance so it makes sense to make the cut there. Maybe I'll sign the papers tomorrow, then I can start procrastinating about faxing them!

What a painful decision. Hopefully things will go better in the future.

As my sister said when she told me that they couldn't go to WDW with us one year: "Sometimes it stinks to be a grownup!" :) Good luck with your decision.

I will let you know that at The Timeshare Store, Inc.® I would say we run into this situation about five times a month. Someone will buy and say that they had to sell years ago for whatever reason. Five times a month may not seem like a big number but it does happen. If you end up selling I am confident you will be back as a member when the time is right.

Best of luck and I hope you achieve the financial situation you're looking for.

Better for you to have Financial Freedom, I wish you the Best of Luck!

The one thing that some DVC owners feel cheated on are promotions like Free Dining and Cash specials. I know they often say that it won't always be such a gloomy economy in the future, and these specials may no longer be available.

I kind of think they will be around longer than Disney wants, so smile, start saving all those high maintenance fees we have been paying, and consider staying at those rock bottom deals available at the Value or Moderate resorts for now, and then maybe in the future you can be back.

Also I am always amazed how low some DVC owners rent their points out.
I know someone who never even pays 10 dollars a point, and waits for something like a 6 to 7 dollars a point GIVEAWAY deal. She often finds it.
So you might be able to still get into the DVC cheaper than most of us by renting points when the owner is desperate to get rid of them.

Saving Money in Hard Times is way better than owning at DVC.

Good Luck !

There may be a silver lining to having to sell my DVC contract. My MIL and FIL have Wyndham timeshare points and apparently quite a few. They are starting to get a little older and haven't been using their allotment. They have offered for us to take trips on their points before and we are taking them up on it for a short trip to the beach in October. Here's the kicker, my wife told me that they have a ton of unused points in a RCI acct. I told my wife that RCI points can be used at DVC and so suddenly we are feeling a little better about future trips.

We will try to use some of the RCI points for DVC reosrts or Wyndham points at Bonnet Creek and just rent them from them. It will be mutually beneficial since they just aren't able to travel like they once could and we can just rent points from them when we want to go on vacation. I am feeling much less bummed out!

We had to sell back in April...and it was a very difficult decision. I had to stop going on the DIS for a while to try to curb our desire to seeing the mouse...but to no avail, we're trying to plan a December and a May trip. We're now looking to get back in...although we'll start by buying resale, small point contracts, rather than the large contracts we had earlilier. We had 910 points...and built up too fast. Won't make that mistake again! Needless to say, DVC spoiled us rotten! Also, missed conversing with all of the friends here on the DIS!

Your situation sounds a lot like mine, in fact my wife just asked if I would consider selling DVC membership to catch up on bills. I immediately said no but might have to reconsider. I just thought of something that might help myself and possibly you as well. Could you get by with selling half your points or possibly renting them to at least cover your yearly cost? Just a thought.

If you are in a financial situation where you need to think about selling a vacation timeshare, then-----you need to do just that!!!!
If you are having financial problems requiring you to downsize---without a doubt a vacation timeshare should be the 1st to go.
As others have said--there are plenty of DVC rentals to be had, which are many times more cost effective, depending on your DVC use. Also DVC resales will contine as long as there is DVC, so you can always buy another DVC contract--if you desire.
