Had our Easter meal last weekend and a cousin of mine insisted there's a basement at EPCOT. Says she "knows" someone who knows that there is.

Now I've been a Disney fan for quite some time and have been on several backstage tours so I'm 99.999999% certain there isn't one and that the only "basement" is at the MK. LOL

Through the evening this cousin would come up to me and say "yes Patti, I know it's there because this friend of mine was in on the actual building of EPCOT. He helped build the place so he would know."

I told her what I knew about the MK underground but she kept gabbing on and on about this special place at EPCOT. I wanted to slap her.......

so if I had slapped her would I have been justified? Am I right that there's no basement at Epcot? :rotfl:

There is one section in Future World that has a tunnel/basement. Not the whole park though.

I read that somewhere, too. Part of Epcot has an "underground", but not all. Also, not nearly as elaborate as the utilidors (sp) of the Magic Kingdom.

I have heard the same. :thumbsup2

1) TrustTheScupper.
2) Yes, there is.
3) In fact, they flooded several times this year.
4) They just spent a bunch of bucks digging and laying new concrete.
5) They are access tunnels, break rooms, rest rooms, trash removal, etc.
6) They are also limited to Future World.

I assumed tunnel areas were everywhere but she's talking about a basement area under spaceship earth extending underneath the lake and countries. Hope she will share more with me next time I see her.

At Epcot, there is a small tunnel under connecting the two parts of Innoventions and The Land. It's mostly for storage, kitchens, and break rooms. And another tunnel that leads from Universe of Energy, under Spaceship Earth, and ends at The Living Seas.

I thought I'd remembered seeing a plan where the two tunnels were connected, but at any rate there's no big circle as at the MK. And definitely not extending out under the lake to World Showcase!

There is also a basement under America in world show case, you walk slightly up hill. Has something to do with the show and needing space below the stage.

Ok, I have no idea where I might remember this from.........but does the rain water run-off from Spacship Earth go into a tunnel underground and somehow end up in the lake in World Showcase? I believe this is how Spaceship Earth does not create "sheets" of rain water run-off during big storms????????

There are many "basement" areas in both Future World and World Showcase, but it is not the extensive tunnel system that you see at MK. Some (but not all) of the WS pavilions have underground areas, most to support show electronics or other maintenance areas. The section under FW is more of a storage space than anything else. There are no "tunnel areas", really, at Epcot. There is no "basement" under the lagoon.

Yup, saw this on History Channels Modern Marvels WDW episode.

Yes, this is true. And MK's tunnels are not considered a basement. It's the 1st floor and MK is on the 2nd and 3rd floors. I believe it's illegal to have a "basement" that large in Florida.

I have heard rumors that there is a basement at the Alamo in San Antonio, but I haven't been able to confirm that.

"At Epcot, because of the increased size of the park and the ability to provide alternate transportation for Cast Members via perimeter roads, the tunnel system only runs the central core, providing access to Spaceship Earth and the two Innoventions buildings."
