Is Their A Polite Way To ...

A question to those who adamantly say they would never ask for an free upgrade, that it would be unfair to those paying for that type of room, just pay for what you want and on and on....Would you refuse a free upgrade if it was offered to you with out asking? :confused3

:goodvibes

Yes, if it were offered to us without asking. There's a difference.

I was told by a Cast Member that any free upgrades which happen at check-in take place when the guests name is entered in the computer and a thing will come up that says they got a free upgrade. So the Cast Members have no control over it since it was decided before that a free upgrade would happen.

Also when asking if any upgrades are available and if the Cast Member says yes it is, chances are they will think your willing to pay the extra $ per night because they can not give free upgrades just like that.

not always the case. our check in CM was writing down our room number for our standard view when we asked, and he said let me go ask my manager, came back, and gave us the upgrade. I do not feel more entitled than anyone else, and if they say no, big dela, i dont get upset, but it can't hurt to ask. i mean, it the hotel is only half full and they will allow you an upgraded room for free, heck why not just find out and see! I do not consider myself a rude person for asking, nor do I "expect" one. I just consider it a little pixie dust if it happens, which is has (and hasn't) before!

The times we've gotten upgrades (BC, CR, 2xWL), it has happened just that way. The CM checking us in looked at the computer and said something to the effect of "Oh! You have an upgraded room!" It seemed like the CM was as suprised as we were!

I was going to say, the time we got upgraded to concierge at BC the CM kept asking us...how we got upgraded...heck we did not know, we have a CM friend and it was the first time we booked so we thought he did, but he did not.

The for our wedding we were upgraded to a huge corner room, waterview and I think the CM was more excited than I was!

I think the first thing to ask at check-in is if the resort is full. I don't consider that a rude question at all, and one I'd freely ask of any resort. If the resort is full, then you can stop there. They can't upgrade you if there are no free rooms. If the resort is full, then it affects me personally as I like to use Disney transport.

As another poster said, the best thing to do after that is to ask about an upgrade in the sense of paying for an upgrade. Disney has been known to offer -upgrade rates- they are relatively rare, but they do happen. Disney resorts are pretty full these days, so they can't offer what they don't have. Still, Disney makes more money off of upgrade rates than they do off of empty rooms. Let's say your room is $200 per night, the deluxe view is ordinarily $300 a night, and they have several empty deluxe view rooms. If you pay $60 for the upgrade fee, then Disney comes out ahead over you staying in your current room. If you can't afford the $60, then you simply decline the offer. I don't think in that case it's rude to ask, unless maybe you ask KNOWING that you have no intention of paying $.01 more for your room. Even then, you are only taking up so much of the CM's time. Most of the time, when I've checked in, as long as there wasn't a long line behind me, the front desk CM's are happy to answer any questions. If I was in theri position, I'd rather answer guests questions that have to stand at the desk with nothing to do.

In my opinion if you want an upgrade why don't you just pay for it? Everyone wants things for free now a days.

Exactly. That is the only way I would ever ask for an upgrade.

Your chances probably depend on the length of your stay - if you are checking in for one week, it's not likely that an upgraded room would be available for that whole time. On the other hand, if you are only there for 2 nights...you'd have a better chance. ;)
