Is the Yeti working again?

I don't know much about Disney engineering (or Imagineering I guess), but I'm kind of surprised it was built so that repairs to the yeti would require major dismantling. That almost seems like designing a car that requires the engine to be removed when the battery dies.

Oh well, it's a bummer that it doesn't work, but to me it's not all that big of a deal. It's still a really fun ride.

This is why a lot of people think it is something else. If it was just the AA and not a structural thing they could have put a tarp up and worked on it while the ride was still operational.

No. As others indicated it would take a major structural repair to get this going again as it was intended.

Just out of curiosity, can anyone tell me when it STOPPED working? This solves a mystery for me...My first trip to AK was in 2009, and then I've been a few times since. I remember on one trip thinking to myself, I thought that Yeti moved??? and thinking maybe it was my imagination or just more scary the first time? My memory for details is sometimes not so great and since no one else in my family will go on it with me, couldn't compare notes! :crazy2:

:cheer2: Yay! The Yeti is finally...fixed. :duck:

Wow, you're really getting one heck of an up close and personal view of the Yeti to see if he's been "fixed". :teeth: If he has truly been "fixed", Bob Barker would approve.

From what I recall, it stopped running before 2009.

Exp Everest opened in 2006.

Expedition Everest opened back in April of 2006 and the Yeti only worked for a few months. So it was down long before your trip

Thanks - hmmm...I'm probably just losing it. I looked it up and an article I read (Orlando Sentinel) suggested it hasn't worked in "Full-A mode" since March 2009 (and it sounds like at that point it was only working sporadically), so I probably didn't see it! Losing it or active imagination...sounds like it was pretty awesome when it worked (briefly).

The yeti moving hasn't worked since mid 2006. The disco Yeti started in 2009 with the strobe light

Could have been the promo videos that made you think you had rode it when it worked. Disney still uses promo footage of the ride with the Yeti Lunging and Swiping so a lot of people think they saw it do just that since that is what the video says it should do.

I read in Wikipedia that the Yeti worked correctly for only the first few months. Then they did re-start it periodically before finally shutting it down and going full Disco.

So it's possible that you saw it move in 2009.

I think they may have tried a few things to help it's structure but nothing ever worked. As I understand it has to do with weight/speed/torque all putting a lot of pressure on the foundation. It seem like the Yeti was just too big and powerful and no structure can hold her up.

At least they have a good excuse for the Yeti animatronic not working. They have no excuse for their broken animatronics on DINOSAUR, It's a small world, Splash Mountain, Little Mermaid....basically all of their rides with animatronics!

My inside AK "source" told me last night that the Yeti is "moving" again, but at a largely reduced speed.
