Is the Western Steer in Orlando really Brits' favorite restaurant on I-Drive?

I was looking through an Orlando tourist magazine and there was an ad for the Western Steer Steaks and Buffet. It proclaimed an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet (includes ice cream, yum!) and an all-you-can-eat steak dinner buffet (with ice cream too, yum!). The ad also showed a UK flag and proudly said in bold letters, "Brits' favorite restaurant on I-Drive." The restaurant is at 6315 International Drive, across from Wet N Wild.

So from the mouth of Brits, is this place really "Brits' favorite restaurant on I-Drive?"

Never done the Western Steer, but we do love the Ponderosa chain - such good value for money

My favourite buffet restaurant on I-Drive is the Sizzler opposite the Pointe.

My other favs, in no particular order, include:

Cafe Tu Tu Tango

Crab House

Western Steer is not actually that good, only been once & that was 4 years ago, was very basic if I remember rightly.
Have found the Ponderosa to be full of families who let their kids run amock 'fingering' the food, truly disgusting. (No offence intended to anyone, unless you are one of the ones I am talking about )
Golden Corral was our fav. all u can eat type place.
Chillis - we rated highly, last year & the year before, this year the food was still good but the service was terrible, very very slow

We were very keen on Tony Roma's, especially cos it's all you can eat ribs at the mo, I think we ate @ Roma's on half the nights of our hols.
1st night we went there, we waited about 15 mins for our starter, we thought nothing of this but they came rushing out apologising. The manager came over & the starters were on the house cos of the 'delay'. We were gobsmacked as it was not a delay. Due to this good gesture & great food we went back often (with our free appetiser vouchers ) & on our last night on Thursday, the manager knocked 50% off our bill.
Roma's rocks & the baby back ribs are to die for. The Fillet stake ain't bad either

I think that buffets that you can go back to, as many times as you like, are still a novelty with the Brits! Generally a buffet in the Uk means you pay a set price which is ONE visit only to the buffet!

We love buffets in the US - it means you don't have to pile up your plate ! (Not that you'd know that when you look at some people's plates! LOL)

I DO like Tony Roma's though....mmmmmmmmmmm.....ribs.

and if I'm thinking budget, Perkins always gets my vote.

My vote goes to Wild Jacks, just to the north of Sand Lake Road. We've been in there on a number of occasions and the foods always been excellent.

Another good place, especially for ribs, is Damons in the Mecardo. The ribs really are to die for!!

Never tried Western Steer so can't comment on that.

We also enjoy JTs Steakhouse on 192, going west towards Highway 27. We got this tip from Simons book and really enjoyed it.

Damons has very good ribs. I've never been to that particular one, but other ones I've been in are set up as a sports bar as well. Is that the case with this one? Just wondering.

Another vote here for Damon's I'd forgotten about them - great meatloaf in there.

Another budget place I like is Friendly's on I-Drive just up from Quality Inn Plaza.

All this talk of food is making me real hungry.

I also realise that there are a few restaurants that I really like but I miss out on them when staying on-site...oh well you can't eat at all the restaurants....although that would be a dream come true for me

I know it was four years ago when we visited this western steer and it was our one and only visit, food very greasey, no choice, dirty and disgusting, we left after a couple of bowls of cereal. We tend to go to the ponderosa most mornings for brekkie but will certainly try some of the above suggestions this time around.

No way, worst place we ate at!!

Much prefer Hard Rock Cafe, Sweet Tomatoes, Ponderosa was OK for a cheap meal. Not Western Steer!!

Hi,
Never tried Western Steer (after the comments above I doubt if I will!!) I pretty much agree with whats been said,Ponderossa and Sizzler for their buffets,Damons for ribs (we have a Damons restaurant close by in the UK so we get a little taste of the US most months)Also like Perkins and love the Village Inn just across from the Shereaton World.

Have never tried Western Steer but of all the Breakfast Buffets we've tried then Golden Corral has to be the best, the one right beside Premium Outlets is the best, it's new and it's spotless and there was no grease(yuk!)

I have read several bad reports on this restaurant over the past few years - it is one that we definitely tend to avoid

We've never been in - the look of the place put us off! A brilliant breakfast can be had at IHOP (the one at Canadian Court on I-Drive). I know these chain places can differ but this one is really good. There are some good restaurants at Mercado especially The Butcher Shop.

Maybe they had found ONE Brit who said it was their favourite place. Don't know where they canvassed for support but I'd guess not on the DIS boards as they have failed to get a single favourable review

As far as buffets go Sweet Tomatoes is my favourite by far. I haven't tried many others as I feel they tend to cater very poorly for vegetarians.

I'm an IHOP fan too. Can't beat chicken fried steak with cream gravy. It's a heart attack on a plate!
