Is the sun wheel really that scary?

We lived so close to skyrail that it was never an issue. Out of town guests went if they wanted to. Occassionally my dd went as well.

it was completely horrible especially since i don't like heights and was talked in to riding the inside death cars by cheryl. "oh it looks like fun" she said.....as you ascend as the wheel turns the cars race at a downward angle from the feeling of safety in the middle of the wheel in to what appears to be oblivion over the edge of the wheel then they lurch around in stomach-chruning fashion:scared1: in the opposite direction and angle.

this caused me to get on my knees on the floor:rotfl: and try and look down and try and not see outside the car. cheryl had no problem at all and was amused with my reaction:laughing:. i am pretty sure the operator saw my reaction as well and brought us in at the first opportunity. this was in the morning and i did not lose my breakfast or anything like that but i did have to sit down for a few minutes to recover. the quick remedy was to go ride mulholland drive!:idea:

:laughing: I have a feeling that's exactly how my story will end up going...

As an aside to those that have never ridden THE WHEEL, let me try to explain the terror.

Imagine a REALLY BIG ferris wheel, where the gondola you sit in is covered, but open air, and is attached to the "wheel" by a pivot in the central part of the gondola, so that as the big wheel turns, the gondola stays upright.

*That* is *not* the S/MFW.

Now imagine the same big ferris wheel, but this time the gondolas are attached to a pivot overhead via a steel boom, so that as the wheel starts and stops turning, the gondola swings back and forth (in an arc) suspended from the boom above, way up in the air.

*That* is *not* the S/MFW.

Now imagine that the overhead boom is not attached directly to a pivot on the wheel itself, but to a semi-oval *track* teens of feet in diameter attached to the big wheel, and when the big wheel turns, not only does the gondola sway side to side, it also races tens of feet TOWARDS THE EDGE OF THE WHEEL LOOKING AND FEELING LIKE CERTAIN DEATH, and when the gondola finishes racing to the other end of it's oval track, it SWINGS WILDLY, as if to say "you are going to fall off the end of the wheel...just kidding...actually, not kidding...just kidding again...not kidding again!" until the big wheel advances more, and the whole process starts over again!

*THAT* is the S/MFW. :eek::scared::faint:

I rode in the stationary car and was terrified!!!! I love rollercoasters, ferris wheels, etc. This was awful although I took some great pictures except to the caged top half.
My 13 year old god daughter, screamed the whole time on the rocking gondolas and said that if that was what she had to ride to get to come back to California, she would stay home!! (By the way, she loved California and the WDW girl now like DL better!!)
Her 14 year old friend laughed the whole time and my mother sitting in a wheelchair nearby said no way!!! Bt the way she rides any thing I will let her ride with her osteoporisis!!

Ha ha....so glad I'm not the only one who hates this ride. Hubby and the 12 year old love it. Bring on everything else. Too bad they didn't just demolish it rather than the re-vamp job.

Oh ya, when we went with my oldest daughter and her DBF they took the little girls on the moving gondolas.....they were in the car right behind us, they screamed frantically every time they swung and they said they never wanted to do it again. This from DD9 who loves the Maliboomer....LOL It terrified them!!!!!!

Oh and it's all cute and decorated!! The new theme is very cute but I don't like the sun on Screamin', I still like that one better with a Mickey on it. :)
