Is the Rose and Crown authentic

Thank you for all your answers. You have been a great help. I will try to change our booking. Is anyone interested in a table for four at the Rose and Crown? :lmao:

We've eaten there several times and enjoyed the food-also good view for illuminations if you time it right.:goodvibes

In other words, no it's not really that authentic.

It does sell the right drinks for the most part (though they can't pour a propper guinness) but the food isn't what you'd find in a british pub (which in some ways is a good thing) and the decour is as always a Disneyfied "best day ever" version of a british pub.

Saying that, I do eat there on occasion, and the customer facing CMs are from the UK and it's nice to chat with them, assuming they have the time.

It's a nice restraunt, but not really a true example of a "british pub".

Seconded

I would agree that it is an American interpretation of what they think a British pub should look like (did they not get any advisors in??)
I see the same thing every time I see a Hollywood blockbuster that is on location in London. All of the sudden there are 'Bobbies' running around blowing whistles, and every second shot is of a red double decker or phone box.
On another note we tried the Harry Ramsdens fish and chips back in 2005 and DW, who is a big fish lover, wasn't impressed at all.

Seconded

I've only been a couple of times, once for a drink and the draught Lager was terrible the other for a meal and the service was terrible.......so pretty authentic I would say for the UK

I also always make a joke every year is that the public toilets across from the Rose & Crown are the most authentic part of the UK pavilion as they stink!!

Like the rest of the UK pavilion, it's not very British at all! We've been there three or four times in the past 8 years, and it never gets better. I asked for Baked Beans last year, and while our server knew what I meant and went to ask the chef, the chef apparently looked at her completely blankly - obviously an American in the kitchen! :rotfl:

We love to go there just for the conversation - we normally spend the entire meal discussing how we would change everything to make it more British, from the customers, to the menu, to the smells! In our time, we've come to the conclusion that it's more a New England pub than an England pub!

The food is only mediocre, and after last year's meal, we decided to finally strike it from our 'regular restaurant' selection. I will miss the so-called British food, because while it isn't exactly British, it's no American burger or hot dog meal either!

Strange food things:
- they have rolls as starters, fine, but they only have cheesy rolls, no just plain old white rolls?!!?!
- they serve chips in a basket with fake newspaper paper - just stick the chips in cone-shaped waxy paper, and all would be good!
- there is no custard!!!! How can you have apple crumble WITHOUT custard; that's just wrong! ;)
- there's no traditional pub meals - no steak and kidney pie, Lancashire (or others!) hot pot, etc

yes and no.
we havent been in since 2000 but the chioce of large wasnt similar to the south of england tennants and harp as i recall no fosters or castlemaine xxxx .
its probably the same as irish pubs in english town centers. its what the owners think an irish pub is like but in reality hanging a few shamrocks and irish flags up doesnt make it irish.
what makes agreat British pub is the regulars not the decor so not something achievable in a theme park unless disney are looking for a few guys to sit around drinking all day (i can do that giv us a job). Disney could make it more authentic buy boarding it up and puting up a to let sign (52 pubs a week are closing in the uk).
food wise they need to introduce stale rolls cheese and ham for the full selection and crisps, peanuts and pork scratchings.
in the gents toilets they could do with putting in some cracked tiles and breaking the locks on the stalls and disconect the hand drier i have never been in the ladies which i understand is like an oasis where no expense has been spared by the land lord.
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
cheers dave:drinking1

:rotfl2::rotfl2:Too True it would be really authentic then. Also ut was the only place where we got a normal size bag of crisps!!!

On another note we tried the Harry Ramsdens fish and chips back in 2005 and DW, who is a big fish lover, wasn't impressed at all.

We bought fish and chips from the take-out window and similarly were not impressed that it was made with frozen fish and soggy batter :confused3
Think we are spoiled at home as the fish is landed locally :)

It seems to me that many of the posts are indulging in that favourite pastime of Brits - knocking anything vaguely British. We have visited WDW now a fair number of times and have never been to the R&C until 2 weeks ago when we felt that we should really give it a try. We were very pleasantly surprised. For a start I would have to agree that in one significant way it was unlike its UK counterpart in that the staff, made up entirely of British young people, were friendly and attentive and went about their work with a smile on their faces. They are Disney cast members and no doubt have experienced a WDW training school and screening. They obviously want to be there (don't we all :)) in contrast to a great many - though not all I hasten to add - of UK based pub staff. The food that we had at the R&C was really very good and the Boddingtons that I ordered went down a treat. :goodvibes

All in all it was a very pleasant dining experience - one of our better meals - and one that we would have no hesitation in repeating on any return visit.

As for the comment about the toilets across the road - surely no-one really believes that they are cleaned by Mrs Mop (apologies to the majority of toilet cleaners in the UK) unlike every other rest room in WDW.

Feel like a typical British pub? Sitting looking out over the lake in temperatures over 90 degrees, its not about to, but is a Disney interpretation of one - probably just like all other attractions are around World showcase I suspect, which can't be too bad.

Beer OK, Food Ok, I think there is better places to visit when you are out of Blighty for 2 weeks

We have eaten here a few times and I agree with the others it is in my opinion themed out how an American would think a british pub would be, some things are cleverly done like the wooden tables and benches, yes there are quite a few UK pubs that have these, we ate in a small country pub last weekend that we looked at each other and just said Rose and Crown. Other things are disneyfied. The menu is quite good, although I had the ploughmans last year and it was not at all a proper UK ploughman - there was no pickled onion!!!!! but the food is good and our children enjoyed it, especially as our server last year came from just near our home, and she was excellent with the boys. I am sure you will enjoy it.

I wanted to try this but they no longer had it on the menu in May :sad2:

And the vegetarian option is a vegetable curry. Yuck Would rather have a cucumber sandwich!! Or a cheese butty!

I did have the curry though and I thought it was delicious popcorn:: Not at all greasy, nice flavour and not too filling.

We love stopping by to have a drink, in fact we always try to make sure we say Hi to Carl (from Leicester) who manages the place - all the staff there are really lovely and I think they enjoy saying Hi to the Brits.

I would agree though it's not like any pub I've been to - the ones I've visited were either spit and sawdust holes or these chain places - 2 meals for £5 mmmm anyone know what 'meat' it might be  (joking but good pubs are sadly few and far between and I would choose R&C over the ones around here any day)

Agreed - but R&C is still worth considering as it is certainly comparable to many other Disney restaurants.
