Is the reservation expiration date FIRM or flexible?

Had 10-day passes, purchased pre-COVID, planned to use Dec 30-Jan 8. We had planned for kids to miss a first week of school in Jan; however, now, with quarantine restrictions in our home state (NY), unfortunately, this means kids miss up to 3 weeks of school, which we just can't swing. But we already had plane reservations, so we are thinking of changing them to an earlier return date, and maybe using 3 days of the tickets now and saving 7 for later.

Our summer is looking dicey for a number of reasons, and frankly, we'd rather just use the other 7 days the same time next year (Jan 1-7, 2022). Is anyone having luck getting Disney to bump the Sept expiration date back or are we out of luck? Presuming we can get a refund for the 7 unused days, I know we could apply that toward purchasing a 7 day ticket for Jan 1-7, 2022, but I'm sure it will cost extra, so I'd love to just be able to get the expiration date moved back. Am I out of luck or is there flexibility?

Could you just buy new 3 day tickets for this trip, and save the value of the 10day tix for 2022?

Otherwise, call Disney and ask.

it's a good thought, but right now they're not extending anything past the Sept. deadline. Before I heard "they're being super-flexible" so I wondered if things had changed or not.

He means call to find out if you can get a refund. I wouldn't risk it. I would save the 10 day tix for a future trip - you will be able to apply the value of the tix to the cost of the new tix. And then get the 3 day tix for now

You can ask for a refund, but I'm not sure how easily they are allowing it since ticket value can be used towards new in the future; any refund would be for the full value of the ticket, not splitting it. I highly doubt they will allow you to use 3 days in Dec/Jan and save 7 days for 2022. That 9/26/2021 expiration was very deliberate; they aren't likely to extend the expiration because if they did that for you, they would need to do it for hundreds who want to go next October for the anniversary. I suggested saving the the current 10-day tickets (with expiration 9/26/2021) to use towards future tickets. Buy new 3-day tickets for this coming trip; it's a hit to the budget but you won't lose any value in the long run.
