hi

i am just wondering if you all can help me.

at the moment i am trying to work out what is best value for money.

we wear going to stay in pop century but for £360 more we can stay at port orleans riverside + we get the quick service dining plan.
i had a look on the web and it says you get 2 quick service meal +2 snacks per day and a refillable mug for each for the stay.

whats included in the quick service meal is it main + side + drink ?

asi remember years ago you got a pudding as well.

please help me as i am going to book in the next few days.

thanks les & bev

A Counter Service meal on the Quick Service Dining Plan. Burger, Fries, Drink and Dessert.

In my opinion the best way to get the value from this plan is to use the credits for lunch and dinner, since these are the more exspensive meals even at Counter Service.

If you are going to be getting it for free its great - we have used it and if you know where to go you can get great meals too.

Resort food courts are great as are some of the park CS like Sunshine Seasons in Epcot.

You do get a Meal - such as burger & fries, drink & dessert. If your main course item doesn't come with a side normally you don't get one when using credits.

If you can eat 2 counter service meals a day then its great value, we couldn't, last August we had regular DDP for 16 nights, 1 CS & 1 TS a day (plus 1 snack) it was great but no way could I enjoy 2 CS a day, we like a proper TS meal in the evening.
If you do it you need to plan well and try use credits at places like Wolfgang Puck express DTD, very good for CS. Also the food courts at Port Orleans are very good, offer a little bit more than the regular CS options.
This year we are staying at OKW again with regular DDP, it was exactly same price as Moderate hotels with QSDDP.

Have you got a quote for Saratoga Springs or Old Key West? We are staying at Saratoga Springs in August and booking with Disney UK it worked out the same price as staying at Port Orleans. The big difference is you get one CS and one TS meal per day as well as a snack with the free DDP. When are you going? Is the free DDP on at these times?

we are going to stay at port orleans riverside 13th-27th sept 2011 so we can catch the start of the mickeys not so scare halloween party.
i got a quote of disney uk and virgin holidays and there only £6 difference between them.
still over 3 grand including car hire and tickets so not bad really.

it does say about the free Disney Dining Pan but only quick counter.

Hi Les and Bev

The moderate resorts offer the counter service plan, which is why that is all it is saying. You have to pay in the difference if you want to upgrade. However what the other posters are saying is that you can get the 40% off deals with SSR and OKW for about the same price but they are Deluxe resorts and with then you get the regular DDP which includes a TS meal.

I like the QSDP. I like to be on the go and don't care to be tied to reservations every day/night. However I do still pay OOP for several TS meals on top of it. (Not that QSDP is not enough food - WAAAAAAY too much to eat).

I thought I would mention, since the burger & fries has been used as an example, you can get plenty other options too so if you are a bit more in favour of healthier food there are great salads, stir fries, wraps, sandwiches and other meals too. :goodvibes Ask as many quesions as you like. With dining plans it is a very personal thing as to whether it is a good deal or not.

As some one else mentioned, there are some excellent places to eat counter service and it is not just burger & fries.

On my last trip we had QSDP and I only had a burger once! Wolfgang Puck Expressis fantastic - we also stayed at Port Orleans and the boat journey to DTD is lovely. The food courts and Port Orleans offer a good variety plus there are some excellent choices in Epcot and Animal Kingdom.

Rather like Wayne, we do prefer more sit downs and paid out of pocket for table services just so we could eat with metal cutlery! However, for the cost of the upgrade it is well worth it you would easily more than save that money on food if you were paying yourself -plus (in my opinion) Port Orleans is a much quieter and lovely resort.

Best of luck with your choice.

As 2tiggies says above we too don't like to be tied to reservations and enjoyed the freedom of eating at any place any time. We also made a few reservations for some TS meals and found that it gave us far more freedom.

We stayed at French Quarter and loved it but did find that the foofd court at Riverside had a much better selection.

Best advice I can give is have a look over the menus and see if you can find enough places that you would want to have a TS meal in and then decide if you will use the regular plan enough to jusitfy the extra cost. Plus getting all the reservations as well.

Hope that helps :goodvibes

And very good advice that is too. :) You need to calculate approximately what you would anticipate spending on food for that week. If you are spending anywhere near $300 I would say it is worth it. Remember that the menu prices do not include 6.5% tax which you need to factor in too, so spending that amount of cash is easier than it looks. I also really like the mugs and even not on the DDP, found we had justified the cost by the second or third day as we were always grabbing another drink! Also to take into consideration is that you will have less driving time and save yourself $14 per day in parking if you have a car. That is already a $100 saving. If not, getting around within WDW is much easier than getting to and from an offsite hotel. You also get the benefit of the extra magic hours if this is appealing to you. :)

just make sure you have a camera still or video ready the first time she sees that castle. It really does take your breath away even if you have been to Disneyland paris.

Also if you type honeymoon into the search area of this site you will get loads of ideas on how to make it even more special.

Happy planning:goodvibes
