We're booked to stay at the Polynesian in February following the Western Carribbean Disney Cruise. We chose it because my father-in-law has always wanted to stay there and we thought it would be fun to be on the monorail while the Magic Kingdom is still the major attraction for our children (boy 6, girl 9). However, despite Tikiman's enthusiasm, I'm worried that it's going to be tired and run down. I happen to love the Beach Club, enjoyed the Wilderness Lodge and have liked Dixie (Port Orleans Riverside) in the past. I'm having trouble getting as enthusiastic as I should be about our Poly stay even though I know it's a deluxe property and I'm a spoiled brat to be able to stay there. I'm hoping someone can sell me on its charms.

It really is a beautiful resort - from the South Pacific theme to the large rooms, everything about it feels like casual luxury. Ahhh, I wish I was at the Polynesian right now!

We absolutely loved the Poly when we stayed there in August. The rooms were not run down at all. In fact they are refurbishing a lot of the longhouses now. Some are already done and some are being worked on. We just got back from a very short stay at ASMu and went to the Poly for dinner. I was almost in tears wanting to be there instead of where we were because I love the resort so much. We even have our 20th Anniversary trip booked for Lagoon View Concierge for July of 2003 even though the concierge will be in a different building due to the rehab. I love it that much Im willing to risk that type of special vacation. I know more than anything the Poly will make it special for those that are being moved due to the rehab.

Stayed there in '99. Loved it. It wasn't tired or run down.

It's a lovely resort. The grounds are beautiful. The resort has an exotic feel to it. Hammocks on the beach. Great views. Rooms are nice. Friendly staff. Great location. There is a lot to appreciate about the Poly! Go into it with a positive attitude. Look for the good things. You'll find it. :D

If there is some minor problem, the CM's are generally very accomodating.

I wish I were there now too, Cali-D!

It didn't seem tired and run down at all last August. In fact they have redone most everything there. The buildings are a bit dated but not run down. You can see hints of 60's and 70's design here and there but that seems to be mostly gone too.

We stayed at both the Poly and the Beach Club in July. Our room at the BC was much more run down and in need of a rehab than the one we had at the Poly which was in perfect condition. Some people look at the pictures of the longhouses at the Poly and think the resort looks old, etc., but that is all a part of the theming at the Poly. It is supposed to look that way-very tropical and island-like.

YES YES YES YES YES.. the answer to your question is YES. It is worth it.

You mentioned that you might be run down and tired. Then, it will be even better. It's sooooo nice to hop on the monorail and your in the Magic Kingdom. It is a beautiful resort and I love love love it.

Are you getting the feeling that I recommend the Polynesian.

Hope you have the time of your life.

ALOHA!!!!!

I stayed at the Poly in February, and nothing was run down. It was a nice trip.

There is a certain magic to the Poly that is missing from some of the other resorts. Certainly the Poly is head and shoulders above Port Orleans.

The monorail makes the resort even better. And of course, you are within walking distance of the TTC, for easy access to the rest of the world.

I've never stayed at the Beach Club, but I'm sure it is a very nice resort. But I think you'll enjoy the Poly more.

FWIW, my next stay is at the Board Walk Inn. They Poly was booked up.

We've stayed at the BC 3 times and the Poly 26 times. Actually my DH and on DS are there now and my DD and I go on Thursday:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc ! So I guess it's 27 times now. It is a wonderful resort and maintained beautifully. The CMs there are wonderful. I find them much friendlier and more relaxed than most CMs at the BC (with the exception of that wonderful greeter in the BC lobby). Many have been there for a long time and have that old time Disney magic. I hope you have a wonderful time at the Polynesian.

We just returned from the Poly on Oct. 5 and stayed in the Rarotonga building. We loved the resort and really enjoyed the beautiful tropical landscaping, the white sandy beach, and the easy access to monorails and the TTC.

I will say that, at least in our room, the only things I noticed that were in need of replacement were the bedspreads (one of which had a fairly large hole in it) and the chest of drawers (the drawers were old and extremely difficult to open and close). Having said that, these minor irritations were certainly overshadowed by the beauty, atmosphere, and location of this resort. Some of the other longhouses are newer and/or have been refurbished more recently, but we chose Rarotonga for its great location, and it was worth it.

I think you will really enjoy the Polynesian and I encourage you to try it. Hope this is helpful!
