Is the Member Cruise worth it?

Always wanted to do the Member Cruise but the timeframes have not been doable due to school schedules. I see that there may be a Member Cruise on August 24, 2014 which would be great SCHEDULE WISE. Looking at the price of this years cruise, it is more than a 5 night New Years cruise for 2014. Is it worth the extra cost for a Member Cruise?

Not for us but it seems to be for many. If we were doing it, we'd do so on cash as the pp costs using points are too high for us.

Same here, I have read that the cruises a few years ago had better activities and speakers/events.

If they discounted the cruise as a perk for DVC Members, that would be different, but they charge more than the cost of the "free" stuff.

A recent discussion. I am not enamored of the gifts, I am at the point of wanting to have fewer possessions, still...I have been on 2 MC's, my most recent was in January, and I have thoroughly enjoyed each one. DCuz, DSis, not DVC members, enjoyed it all too.

What made the DVC cruise more enjoyable that any other cruise and was the premium cost worth it?

I said this previously....it's just one thing I especially enjoyed.

On our EBTA this May, one of the 4 Broadway singers who was on the MC was on board and was the performer one night. She was good, but on the MC, there were 4 Broadway stars, and the performance was spectacular! Still, while on the MC, I was on my way to the show, and passed a person going to dinner, so she had already seen the show. I asked her what she thought about it. She thought it was "OK if you like Broadway." Well, I do like Broadway!

I've done one, last Jan, and I can tell you that if I could, I'd do another. Would I do it every year like some? No. But I liked having the special speakers but the thing I liked the most was that everyone, and I mean everyone on the ship was of like mind.

I've been on other Disney Cruises and yes, just about everyone is a Disney fan on the ship but on the MC, everyone has the same thing in common. It made the small talk, meeting people much more enjoyable.

The "stuff" was nice but not necessary and yes, it just added to my what seems like ever growing pile of stuff at home but it was nice stuff and exclusive stuff.

I can also see how others wouldn't think they were worth the $$ but value is perceived and the memories/experience to me was worth the extra money.

When you book it, you have to pay all at once if I am remembering correctly? So, for two people, either cash for both, or points for one and cash for both, but you still need to pay all at once...is that right?

This will probably be the reason why we'll never be able to do a member cruise...or at least not in the next many years at least. We don't have that kind of cash or credit laying around.

It's too bad they can't take a deposit and work the balance like DCL does...it actually kind of makes me a little mad whenever I think about it...:(

Yes, the member cruise requires payment in full at the time of booking.

All cruise payments are due in full at the time of booking if made through DVC for any cruise.

We have been on several Member cruises and I love them for the following reasons:

*. The 4 day itinerary with two stops at Castaway Cay and NO stops in Nassau! This has been the recent itinerary and before that it was Key West with Castaway Cay which was still nice too.

*. The special presentations which have included Jennifer Hudson, Joey Fatone, Roy E. Disney, Art Linkletter, Richard Sherman...many many Broadway performers together in one show including the singers/voices of Little Mermaid, Belle and so many more I cannot think of right now

*. The overall camaraderie of everyone on board since most of us share in the love of DVC (always exceptions but they are limited)

*. Of course I love the fun "stuff" placed on the beds...who doesn't like surprises, it's like a DVC Christmas. Yes I know I am paying for it but no different than when my Hubby buys me a gift it comes out of our money too but I still love it!!!

*. The opportunity to mix and mingle with DVC leadership and voice my opinions and suggestions on a one on one basis. I know, call me a little weird in the fact I like this but I do.

I could think of many more but I better stop before I write a novel!!

The friendships made were so worth it. The gifts were nice. However for the cost, one for me was enough. We just did a three day with a dolphin excursion at Nassau and Castaway. I enjoyed this cruise just as much. The magic was still there without the extra cost.
